πŸ‚ Planning your fall? Starke County has a full calendar.

We've been building out the Calendar of Events at https://visitstarkecounty.com/calendar/, and September is stacking up nicely.

Car shows, cut-your-own flowers, food trucks, live music, and a festival to close it out β€” worth the drive, and worth staying the weekend.

Now here's where we need you. We pulled this together by digging through event pages across the county on Facebook, which means we almost certainly missed something. If you know of a festival, a live music night, a car show, a fundraiser, a market, a church or club gathering, a fish fry β€” anything visitors would want to know about β€” tell us in the comments or message the page.

Send us the name, the date, the town, and where to find more info if that exists. We'll get it on the calendar.

The more complete this calendar is, the easier it is to find entertainment that's already happening within our county.

A few weeks ago our Public Art page had one thing on it. It's now up to nine.

Sandhill cranes and a river otter on a wall in downtown North Judson. A stag with a steam locomotive painted inside it, on an old signal bungalow along the Erie Trail. Coneflowers running the length of the Wythogan Park entrance. A butterfly at the Knox library with wings sized for a kid to stand between. An eight-mile walk through the solar system. A herd of white deer on a barn in Toto, standing in front of a Bosnian hillside.

Every single one arrived because somebody in this county took the time to send a photo, dig up a name, or tell us the story behind it.

Special thanks to Jacque Ryan, Danny Kistler of Photos by Danny, Mary Perren, and the Starke County Historical Society for the images and background information β€” the kind of detail that turns a nice picture into something worth driving to see.

And we're not finished. If there's public art you'd like to see on this page, tell us in the comments or send us a message.

Where it is. What it's called. Who made it. When it went up. A photo, if you have one.

Only know one or two of those? Send it anyway. A location and a photo is plenty β€” we'll chase down the rest, same as we did with these.

Starke County, it turns out, has a lot to look at.

We're building a map of Starke County's public art and we need your help.

"Energy flows in Trails and Rails" is now up on our website, under Explore:

One piece. That's the whole page right now β€” and that's on purpose, because we'd rather start it and let you help us fill it than wait until we think we've found everything ourselves.

There's a mural on a side wall somewhere. A sculpture in a park. Something painted on the back of a building that only the folks on that block know about. We want all of it on this page.

So tell us in the comments or send us a message. The more you can share, the faster it goes up:

Where it is (address, cross streets, or "the north wall of ___" all work)
What it's called, if it has a name
Who made it
Roughly when it went up
Who commissioned it or paid for it, if you know
A photo, if you've got one

Only know one or two of those? Still send it. A location and a photo is plenty β€” we'll try to chase down the rest.

Every piece you send makes this page more worth visiting. Let's show off what Starke County looks like.
