🎨 Call for Artists — Bass Lake Public Art Project

Starke County is looking for an artist to create an outdoor sculpture or installation at Bass Lake Beach in 2027 — something durable enough for an Indiana year and welcoming to visitors of every age. The selected artist receives a $5,000 stipend and a place on the Starke County Public Arts Trail.

The American Discovery 250 Relay is coming through Starke County.

On Wednesday, October 14, participants carrying a copy of the Declaration of Independence will make their way across Northwest Indiana — starting in Lansing, through the Indiana Dunes, south through La Porte County, and into North Judson.

That baton left the Pacific Ocean on July 1 and is headed for the Atlantic by Thanksgiving. Our trails are part of that route.

On October 14th, the American Discovery 250 Relay enters our great region! This nationwide event kicked off on July 1st from the Pacific Ocean and is planned to finish at the Atlantic about Thanksgiving. Participants will be carrying a special baton carrying a copy of the Declaration of Independence.

The route in NWI will start early morning in Lansing, cross the state line and head to the Indiana Dunes, then through La Porte County south to North Judson. The route will take full advantage of many of our great trails.

Due to the rain predictions, this event will move to October 18th.

We are canceling the event tomorrow and will reschedule for October 18th 2026. It's a Sunday. We will also add in for the kiddos a costume contest judging for early Halloween fun. I'll be putting up a new flyer for information. We don't want anyone to worry about rain at 90% prediction. Thank you and see u then .

Grant applications open today.

Planning an event or project that brings people to Starke County? The Starke County CVC awards grants to nonprofit organizations working to draw visitors here — festivals, events, attractions, and projects that give people a reason to make the trip and stay awhile.

Funding comes from the innkeeper's tax on short-term stays, which means every dollar goes back into promoting Starke County as a destination.
