Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Possible Explosive Device

On November 10, 2025, Knox Police Officers Joe West and Matt Borkholder conducted a traffic stop at the BP Gas Station in Knox.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was operating while suspended prior.

During the stop, Officer West located an item in the driver’s door that appeared to be a homemade pipe bomb. As a precaution, the area surrounding the BP Gas Station was immediately evacuated, and the Porter County Bomb Squad was requested to respond to the scene.

Upon arrival, the Bomb Squad safely secured the device. ( determined not to be a bomb) The driver was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office for incarceration.

The Knox Police Department would like to extend its appreciation to the Knox Fire Department, the Porter County Bomb Squad, and the Starke County Dispatchers, Starke County Sheriffs Department for their assistance and cooperation during this incident.
