This past week, members drilled on forcible entry and various methods of cutting to include rebar cutting, hockey puck locks, and padlocks. Members utilized our 14” K12 gas powered saw, DeWalt 9” battery saw, and 20v bandsaw. Members also practiced using a multitool for ring removals. This was also the first time we utilized our new Rescue Squad Ironworks Ellis Prop and Wichita Chain.

This is just one of the ways we try to hone our craft, if you would like to request more information about membership with us, click the link below:

Thank you Midwest Gear Solutions for cleaning, inspecting, and repairing structural turnout gear for some of our members.

Did you know, with the revision of NFPA 1850, it is now recommended that departments have turnout gear undergo advanced cleaning and inspection by trained professionals. In this case we chose Midwest Gear Solutions to ensure that our gear is ready to go and free from carcinogens that firefighters are frequently exposed to.

Thank you to Mercedes Textiles and Dunnys Pump Service for the delivery of 600 ‘ Aqua-Flow Plus 3” and 600’ KrakenExo 2”. This hose will be placed on our apparatus in the coming days and is the first phase of our hose replacement project with us anticipating the delivery of 1600’ of MegaFlo Breather 4” in the next few months!

•The 3” will be placed on Squad 10 and Engine 10, both receiving 300’. This hose will be used for supplying another apparatus, supplying our Rapid Attack Monitor “RAM”, as well as supplying Fire Department Connections “FDC”.

•The 2” will also be placed on Squad 10 and Engine 10. Each apparatus will have 300’ in a minuteman configuration. This hose will be equipped with a 1 1/16” smoothbore nozzle flowing 235 Gallons per minute to be used as our residential “Big Line”
This will allow us to flow a greater amount of water than that of an 1 3/4” hose-line while still remaining light and maneuverable which is crucial in residential occupancies.

This is just one of the advancements to continue to improve and provide a better service to our community! We are constantly seeking improvement and trying to better prepare and build a firemanship culture

Last night, 6/7 at approximately 2221 hours, the Knox-Center Twp. Fire Department responded to assist the Washington Twp. Fire Department on a residential structure fire. Squad 10, Tanker 10, and Chief 10 responded and arrived shortly after Rescue 12 and found a 2 story residential structure with fire on the first and second floors as well as the basement. It was unknown if anyone was in the structure and crews advanced 2 hoselines into the first floor and basement simultaneously to allow for a search to be completed.
After 20 minutes, crews were eventually told to abandon the structure due to deteriorating structural integrity. Crews then operated in the defensive strategy for the remainder of the incident. It was determined that no one was home at the time of the incident and there were no reported injuries.
Squad 10 operated for approximately 4 hours before returning to service.

Yesterday, 6/3 at approximately 8:45 pm, the Knox-Center Twp. Fire Department as well as Hamlet-Davis Fire Territory and Starke County EMS as part of our MABAS box alarm assignment were dispatched to the 5600 block of 100 north for a reported structure fire.
While en route, units were updated that it was a working fire in an attached garage. Upon the arrival of Chief 10, he assumed command and upgraded the alarm level to a 1st alarm. Squad 10 arrived right behind and assumed the role of 1st due engine, performing a 360 size-up and stretching the initial attack line. Squad 10 was able to knock down the fire in the garage and then move to the interior entry door to cut off any extension and allow crews to search.
Truck 10 arrived on the scene and performed a primary search on floors 1 & 2, which proved negative for victims. They then transitioned to check for any extension.
Sub sequential units arrived and assisted with stretching a backup hose line and checking for any fire extension in the living space. Extension to the living space was minimal with most being held to the attic space.
This fire is currently under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Thank you to Hamlet-Davis Fire Territory, North-Judson Wayne Twp. Fire Department, Washington Twp. Fire Department, Bass-Lake California Fire Department, as well as Starke County EMS and EMA for their assistance.
The following footage was obtained by bystander prior to our arrival.
