“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers—so many caring people in this world.” — Fred Rogers

This beautiful and comforting quote makes me think of our Victim Services staff, who are helping many people daily. We have been working hard to take inventory of all donations in preparation for a busy season. Thank you so much to Project VOLO for donating tangible items that our staff can provide in times of crisis.

📚🩵SKILLS and LIMITS is back in the classroom!

Our Sexual Assault Center of East Tennessee team has been spending time in local middle and high schools teaching the SKILLS and LIMITS curriculum — Lessons on Important Messages for Teens.

Through age-appropriate conversations and interactive activities, students are learning about topics that can make a real difference in their lives, including healthy boundaries, consent, bullying and cyberbullying, online safety, cyber predators, healthy relationships, and recognizing unsafe behaviors.

Education is an important part of prevention. By giving young people the knowledge, language, and tools to recognize boundaries, make informed decisions, stay safer online, and reach out to trusted adults, we’re helping them build skills they can carry with them beyond the classroom.

We’re grateful for the schools and educators who welcome us into their classrooms and make space for these important conversations.

Thank you Gibbs, Holston, Farragut, Karns, Cedar Bluff, Whittle Springs, Clinton middle and South Doyle and Carter high for having us this month!! Many more to come in the months of October and November!! If you think your students could benefit from having us in your classroom, please reach out to us. We would love the opportunity to partner📚🩵

What a neat way to spread awareness and support your community!

💜Hey local businesses, we have a challenge for you!💜

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we're inviting our local coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, and small businesses to help us Brew Hope in our community.☕️✨

The idea is simple: create your own purple drink to feature during the month of October. Hot, iced, frozen, fizzy, blended....get creative with it!
Promote it as your Domestic Violence Awareness Month special and help spark conversations, raise awareness, and remind survivors in our community that support is available. 💜

If "domestic violence" doesn't quite fit your business's branding, but you'd still like to participate and show support, feel free to promote your drink as a "Brew Hope October Special" instead! Or whatever best fits your aesthetic. 💫

We'd LOVE to see what our local businesses come up with! And of course, we'll be cheering you on and sharing your purple drinks all month long. 🎉

Interested in joining the Purple Drink Challenge?
Simply contact the Claiborne County Family Justice Center at 423-919-8012 to participate. We'll fill you in. 😊

Let's brew a little hope and create some change together. 💜☕️

We are so grateful to be a partner at the Randall E. Nichols Family Justice Center! Having an advocate onsite allows us to work alongside incredible community partners to help ensure survivors have access to compassionate, coordinated support in one safe location.

We’re proud to be part of a space where survivors and families can find support, resources, and hope when they need it most. The new signage looks wonderful! 🤍

Our community is strongest when we show up for one another. 🩵 We’re grateful for the Anderson County Family Justice Center and the compassionate work they do to make sure survivors and their children have what they need. We’re so grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for survivors.

Thank you for recognizing the important work of victim advocates and the many community partners who make this work possible. We’re honored to serve alongside organizations like YWCA Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley and so many others who are committed to supporting survivors and creating a safer, stronger community.

Together, we’re making a difference🩵

Today, on National Nonprofit Day, we’re celebrating the incredible people who show up every day to make our communities stronger.

A special thank you to the victim advocates at our nonprofit partner organizations, McNabb Center and YWCA Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley, for the compassion, dedication, and heart you bring to this work. 💜

And to the countless other community partners, advocates, volunteers, and nonprofits who show up for survivors and our community — thank you. We’re grateful to do this work alongside you. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏾

Communities are stronger because people show up.

✨ July in Review! ✨

July was full of connection, community, and opportunities to spread awareness across East Tennessee! 🩵

📍 We connected with multiple local health councils throughout the month and participated in the Red Sand Project, helping raise awareness about human trafficking and the individuals who may fall through the cracks of our communities.

🫧 We spent time at the Knoxville Zoo sharing bubbles and spreading our “Bubbles for Breathing” message—a fun reminder to pause, breathe, and take care of ourselves.

🎒 We joined National Night Out in Campbell County, where we handed out school supplies and connected with families as they prepared for a new school year.

We’re grateful for every opportunity to meet our community where they are, build meaningful partnerships, and promote safety, support, and prevention. 🩵
