In observance of Juneteenth, our administrative offices will be closed today, Friday June 19th. Our 24/7 emergency hotline will continue to operate as usual.

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. This day came to be known as Juneteenth — a time to celebrate, gather as a family, reflect on the past and look to the future. Juneteenth has always been more than a holiday, the day stands as a testament to and celebration of the unyielding spirit of a people. Learn more and join in the celebration with .

Effective support and services are vital to reducing trafficking. Runaway and homeless youth without safe shelter and social supports are at higher risk of trafficking and exploitation.

If the basic needs of LGBTQ+ youth continue to go unmet, these young people face a greater risk of returning to their trafficking situations.

At Grow Free, we offer services to all survivors of trafficking, including all genders and orientations.

Happy Pride Month!

June is a time to remember history and celebrate the ones who paved the way, but also to reinvigorate our efforts to continue the fight for equality and against discrimination and hatred.

Did you know that youth who identify as LGBTQ+ are disproprotionally affected by human trafficking? Discrimination and its manifestations are one of the key reasons that people who identify as LGBTQ+ – particularly young people – can be especially vulnerable to human trafficking. Fighting for inclusion and preventing human trafficking go hand in hand.

Thank you to the Polaris Project for the graphic and data!

Curious about who we serve? We support survivors of all ages and genders. While the number of youth survivors we have supported has grown in the last year, a big highlight of 2025 is that we saw an 80% increase in Youth Prevention Services compared to 2024, with almost 100 more youth impacted.

By partnering with youth serving agencies, we collectively facilitate exploitation prevention and early intervention curricula with adolescents, while equipping these providers to recognize red flags and engage in a sensitive, trauma-informed response.

Melissa’s journey to this moment has been anything but simple. As she prepares to become a mother for the first time, she carries with her not only hope for the future, but the weight of a past that tested her sense of safety and trust from an early age.

Growing up, Melissa experienced abuse from someone who should have been a source of protection and care. That early betrayal shaped how she saw the world, making it difficult to trust others or feel secure in her surroundings. As she entered adulthood, those challenges followed her, and she found herself without stable housing, navigating periods of homelessness while trying to find her footing.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we remember: there is no health without mental health. Taking care of the mental health of the survivors we serve is a core compotent of our services.

Through Grow Free TN, our 3 full-time therapists offer community-based and in-home therapy, as well as referrals to appropriate mental health services. We work to ensure accessibility to healing and recovery, regardless of barriers such as cost or transportation.
