With five utilities and nearly 520,000 customers, there is a lot to learn at KUB. That’s why we give our TeenWorkers a behind-the-scenes look how we provide safe, reliable utilities to our community.

They learned how we take water from the Tennessee River and treat it to make high-quality drinking water, as well as how we treat wastewater to ensure we return it to the river cleaner than the river itself.

Since KUB Fiber's construction began five years ago, we have constructed 3,900 miles of fiber optic cable. This means we are now more than 75% done with our rollout!

All of this progress would not be possible without the hard work of our in-house and contract crews, who continue to work hard every day to bring fiber infrastructure to every KUB electric customer.

Our fiber network not only provides access to gig-speed internet, it improves electric reliability for KUB customers with fiber-enabled smart technology.

Were you at the 1982 World’s Fair? Our substation was front and center!

In addition to our substation, all of our utilities were involved in supporting this massive event. Here is what it took to put on the World's Fair:
▪️347 utility connections
▪️30,000,000 kWh of electricity
▪️167,000,000 gallons of water
▪️167,000 therms of natural gas

The World’s Fair is long gone, but we are still here as your local, not-for-profit utility company proud to serve our community with safe, reliable utilities.

As your local, not-for-profit utility provider, we’re always working to enhance our system and provide continued service reliability for current and new customers as our region grows.

One recent project you may have noticed in the Walker Springs area is a new pump station to enhance our wastewater treatment system. Pump stations are an important part of our wastewater collection system and help keep everything moving down to our treatment plant.

The new pump station will replace an existing station right next door. It will have more capacity and is designed to significantly reduce or eliminate the risk of sanitary sewer overflows, helping protect local waterways and environmental quality in the surrounding community. Plus, once the project is complete, we’ll turn the site of the existing station into a greenspace.
