🥵 THIS HEAT IS NO JOKE TODAY!
The WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) could push 90° today, while the more familiar heat index climbs to 105–110° in some locations.
So what’s the difference?
🌡️ Heat Index tells us how hot it feels when temperature and humidity are combined.
☀️ WBGT goes a step further. It factors in temperature, humidity, sunshine and wind to better measure the heat stress on your body when you’re active outdoors.
That makes WBGT especially important for young athletes practicing or playing sports today. A WBGT near 90 means the body can struggle to cool itself during prolonged or intense activity. Coaches, parents and athletes need to take hydration, frequent breaks and time in the shade seriously.
But this isn't just about sports.
If you're mowing the lawn, working construction, hiking, boating, gardening or spending extended time outside, the same heat stress applies to you.
💧 Hydrate BEFORE you're thirsty.
🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or A/C.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
🐶 Don't forget about pets.
🚗 NEVER leave kids or pets inside a vehicle.
Bottom line: Your thermometer doesn't have to hit 100° for the heat to become dangerous.
