184 miles south of Kodiak, a mariner aboard a vessel suffered a knee injury requiring medical evacuation.

U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak sprang into action, deploying two aircraft, including an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, which met the vessel offshore.

The aircrew hoisted the patient from the deck and transported them to Kodiak for further medical care.

Talk about the right place at the right time!

On Saturday, 2 people were stranded on the hull of a capsized boat a mile from Narrow Cape, Alaska!

By sheer luck, personnel from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, including the unit’s commanding officer, happened to be relaxing on Fossil Beach when they spotted debris washing up on shore. They grabbed binoculars and spotted the 2 people in need.

Our crews responded quickly, launching a Coast Guard helicopter crew and bringing both survivors back to shore safely.

The Coast Guard Arctic District stands ready to respond to maritime crises through preparation and response operations in the challenging and expansive Alaska environment.

Air Station Kodiak MH-60T crews conducted vital Ice Rescue training on Kodiak Island last week, gaining experience to execute challenging Arctic Search and Rescue Missions.

With the Bering Sea ice pack showing the most extensive coverage in over a decade, this training enables fishing fleets and gains confidence in our crews.

Air Station Kodiak remains ready to respond to crisis and conduct Search and Rescue operations anywhere in Alaska, anytime of year.
