Kodiak Area Native Association - KANA To Elevate the Quality of Life of the People We Serve The primary focus of the organization is meeting the expressed needs of our beneficiaries.

The Kodiak Area Native Association was formed in 1966 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation providing health and social services for the Alaska Natives of the Koniag region. KANA provides these services on behalf of the United States Government through compacts with the Indian Health Service (IHS) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), in each case pursuant to the Indian Self-Determination and Educa

tion Assistance Act of 1975 (the ISDEAA). KANAโ€™s service area includes the City of Kodiak and 6 remote Alaska Native villages: Akhiok, Karluk, Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie and Port Lions and encompasses 10 federally recognized Tribes of Kodiak Island. From the date of incorporation, KANA has been governed by a Board of Directors with varying representation from each of the villages, including one representative for the โ€œat largeโ€ Native population on Kodiak Island. Services provided by KANA include, but are not limited to: Ambulatory Medical Clinic, Dental Clinic, Pharmacy, Community Health Aide Program, Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention and Outreach, Social Services, Mental Health, and Youth Prevention Projects. Other services, provided by State of Alaska and other funding sources, include but are not limited to: Vocational Rehabilitation, Employment and Training, Childcare and Education Assistance Services, Economic Development, Public Safety, Elder Support Programs, Emergency Medical Services, WIC Nutrition Services, and Infant Learning.

This Sunday, June 14, is the final day to submit your application for the KANA Summer Internship program! Build skills, earn money, and explore your future this summer during this 6-week internship designed to give Beneficiary youth the opportunity to gain real-world experience, enhance cultural connections, and grow as leaders.

Explore what's possible with KANA Experience. Open to Beneficiary youth ages 15-18, this internship is designed to help you gain experience in a supportive environment.

Join the KANA Prevention Team for a summer series of Mindful Plant Identification Walks where you'll sharpen your identification skills and gain knowledge about responsible harvesting practices. Each walk will take place on Thursday evenings from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM at various trails throughout our community.
