The Kokomo Police Department is requesting the public's assistance in finding 77-year-old Sue Beall. Sue was last seen on August 21, 2026 and reported as missing on August 23, 2026. Sue suffers from dementia and is known to ride the city trolley.

The Kokomo Police Department is proud to have been an accredited law enforcement agency for over 20 years. Accreditation is achieved by being in compliance with the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The accreditation program requires law enforcement agencies to comply with the state-of-the-art standard in four basic areas: Policy and Procedure, Administration, Operation Services, and Support Services.
As part of this process, a Public Comment Portal is available all year for anyone in the community to provide comments regarding our agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. The Kokomo Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the availability of the portal.
These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide our agency with information to support continuous improvements as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.

On October 3rd we will be holding our second annual KPD 5k Readiness Run/ Walk. Last year, we had over 100 participants and are hoping for more than that this year.

All participants will receive a medal, KPD swag bag, and anyone who registers before September 18 will receive a t-shirt. We are also excited to welcome The Filling Station to this year’s event! The Filling Station will have their food truck at the finish line and will be selling biscuits and gravy, and breakfast burritos.

All of the money raised will benefit the KPD Training Center. Our training center opened in 2024, and since that time, we have hosted training days for law enforcement agencies from Howard, Wabash, and Hamilton counties, along with several different federal agencies. This year, we also began using the training center for community events like National Night Out.

We are excited to announce the graduation of Recruit Officers Jacob McKay, Braden Mumaugh, and Ethan Radcliff from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy today! Each of these officers have completed 16 weeks of intensive training.

Upon returning, they will complete a month of post academy training before entering four months of phase training.

KOKOMO POLICE DEPARTMENT to increase impaired driving enforcement ahead of Labor Day
KOKOMO, IN — As summer winds down, Kokomo Police Department is partnering with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) to increase patrols and conduct sobriety checkpoints as part of the annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national enforcement campaign, supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Through the Comprehensive Highway Injury Reduction Program (CHIRP), an ICJI initiative that provides federal funding for local traffic safety enforcement, officers statewide will work overtime beginning August 19 through September 7, 2026, to identify and stop motorists under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
“Our officers are seeing the consequences of impaired driving far too often,” said Chief Douglas Stout. “As we enter the final weeks of summer, we’re asking every driver to make responsible decisions. A sober ride isn’t just the safest option—it’s the choice that saves lives.”
Preliminary data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) shows that in 2025, nearly 23% of Indiana’s traffic fatalities involved alcohol, and more than 41% involved drug impairment.
“Impaired driving continues to be one of the most serious threats on our roadways, and we’re focused on reducing these tragedies through education and enforcement,” said Douglas Huntsinger, executive director of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. “This year’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign reminds everyone that impaired driving is preventable. When you choose a sober ride, you’re helping protect your community and ensuring everyone makes it home safely.”
In Indiana, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, although drivers can be arrested at any BAC level if an officer believes they are impaired.
Have a Plan Whether You're Driving, Riding, or Hosting:
• Before drinking, plan a safe and sober ride home.
• Don’t let someone get behind the wheel if they've been drinking.
• If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure all your guests have a sober ride home.
• If you see an impaired driver, call 911. Always wear your seat belt — it’s your best defense against impaired drivers.

KPD Applicant Readiness Program
Yesterday, the Kokomo Police Department officially began our Applicant Readiness Program!
This program is designed to give individuals who have applied to become Kokomo Police Officers an opportunity to prepare for the physical portion of our hiring process. Applicants are able to practice the movements and obstacles they will encounter, receive guidance, and get valuable repetitions in before the official testing date.

We would also like to give a special thank you to Morrow Construction LLC for generously donating their time, effort, and expertise to build the stairs and platform used in our physical testing course. Preparing for a career in law enforcement starts before testing day. Our goal is to give our applicants the tools, guidance, and opportunities they need to show up prepared and ready to perform.
