TThe City of Kokomo mourns the passing of Jerry B. Paul, a distinguished veteran, community leader, and proud recipient of the 2024 Congressional Gold Medal. Jerry passed away on Saturday, May 3, at the Indiana Veterans Home in Lafayette after a long illness.

A Vietnam veteran and Crew Chief with the 498th U.S. Army Dustoff Helicopter Unit, Jerry dedicated his life to serving both his country and fellow veterans through decades of tireless advocacy and community service.

As president of the Howard County Memorial Corp., he played a key role in creating public monuments that honor local heroes—lasting tributes to those who served. He received numerous honors, including a Distinguished Citizen of the State of Indiana commendation from Governor Mike Braun, along with multiple recognitions from the City of Kokomo and Howard County.

Jerry’s legacy lives on in the memorials he helped build and the many lives he touched.

Thank you, Jerry, for your unwavering dedication to your community and to veterans everywhere.

May you rest in peace.

Paul settled back home in Kokomo and got on with life. But he never forgot his days in Nam or those with whom he served.
