Take a look at a few snapshots from one of our job sites last week!

When you hire an UP™ crew, you aren't just making a donation in exchange for some yard work—you are directly investing in the future of Kokomo. These kids will be our future doctors, lawyers, and teachers, and your support is needed to help keep them on the right path.

By giving them a job, they learn true responsibility, what it takes to be ready, and other vital life skills like managing money (the points they earn) and talking to customers. Every project hired helps build the character and work ethic that will carry them safely into the future.

🤝 Volunteer Spotlight: Nancy Salmon 🤝

At the UP™ Program, our volunteers and supporters are the heartbeat of everything we do. Today, we are incredibly proud to spotlight Nancy Salmon, a dedicated UP Program supporter and volunteer who sees firsthand the immense impact of investing in the next generation.

Here is what Nancy beautifully shared about her experience:

“We need to value our children. KUO is doing that by teaching & leading by example. I know of no better way that adults can mentor the next generation than supporting & participating in KUO & similar programs. The Huddle is a learning tool for all of us. Someday these youth will be taking care of us!!”

Nancy hits the nail right on the head! When we lead by example, we aren't just teaching temporary skills—we are shaping the future of our entire community. Through hands-on learning and programs like "The Huddle," our volunteers help our students build a solid foundation to grow into independent, self-reliant leaders.

By showing up for our youth today, we ensure they have the tools to show up for all of us tomorrow:

🍓 Strawberry Festival Ready!

We are so excited for another fantastic year at the Strawberry Fest this Friday! We have an incredible group of hardworking kids spending their summer being productive, gaining real-world experience, and earning points for the things they need and want.

If you are heading downtown, come say hi and see our crew in action! We will be working inside the Strawberry Shortcake Tent, lending a hand to keep things running smoothly:

👥 Helping people to their seats
✨ Cleaning up tables
🗑️ Taking out trash and helping out wherever needed

Opportunities like this give our youth a chance to practice accountability and reliability out in the community, building the foundational life skills that prepare them for future jobs. Come out, enjoy some delicious shortcake, and support these amazing kids!

🚲 Happy World Bike Day!

Did you know that a lot of the youth in our UP™ Program walk or ride their bikes to get to work each day?

We believe that giving kids the responsibility of navigating their own transportation builds the exact life skills and character they need for the future. Finding their own way requires accountability, planning, and commitment.

By allowing them the responsibility to choose how they get to the UP™ Program, we are setting them up for long-term success.

When it’s time for them to step into a career, they will already know what it takes to get up, show up, and be a reliable worker.

It’s amazing to watch how a simple bike ride can pave the way toward true independence and a lifetime of self-reliance!

While our Mini UP program is officially on pause for the summer, we wanted to take a moment to look back and celebrate the incredible steps forward our young friends have made. Today, we are reflecting on the amazing growth of our friend, Vkylah!

Over her time with us, Vkylah has truly bloomed. She has worked hard inside the program and has learned to be:

-More patient in her daily learning.
-Respectful to her peers and leaders.
-Ready for whatever challenge comes next!

Even with our youngest "Mini" participants, the mission of Kokomo Urban Outreach remains exactly the same: laying a consistent foundation of life skills, character, and education so that every child can grow into a self-reliant adult.

Seeing these core values take root early on is the ultimate story of impact.

There is nothing quite like hearing directly from a parent about how the UP™ Program is transforming mindsets and building real-world maturity right at home. One of our UP™ moms recently shared a beautiful perspective on how her children are discovering the true value of hard work:

"They want to have money to buy things, and have learned that nothing in life is free, including the money you earn. By them working for their money and using it to buy things or even save, helps them appreciate the value of it so much more than if I were to hand it over. I am very thankful for this program."

The youth at UP Creations - Powered by Kids have been working incredibly hard to prepare for a massive milestone this weekend! From mastering Cricut design software and product layouts to reading custom orders and practicing top-tier customer service, these kids are gaining the exact tools they need to succeed.

Through hands-on entrepreneurship, our students aren't just making incredible items—they are building a foundation of practical life skills, education, and a strong work ethic to become self-reliant adults.

Come out, support their business ventures, and see their hard work firsthand at our first-ever Crafty Fun Fair!

Our Sunday morning at Main Street United Methodist Church was one for the books!

Rylen’s brother joined us for his very first UP™ church experience, and he absolutely shined. He was deeply engaged during the service and was incredibly polite and respectful during the church pitch-in dinner.

This is the real-world impact of Kokomo Urban Outreach.

It takes a baseline community investment of $2,400 a year per student to surround our youth with the core foundation of life skills, work ethic, and mentorship they need to thrive.

Seeing those dollars translate directly into real-world respect, confidence, and manners is the ultimate return on investment for our city!

A massive thank you to the churchgoers today who welcomed our kids with open arms, huge smiles, and lots of hugs!
