We’re a little sad today here at the station, our little squad 1204 left for its new home at Dunnegan Rural Fire District in Missouri this morning in orderto make room for our brand new one due in August. This rig has served us well over the years and was well equipped to do the job! But we know it’s going to a good home with a great bunch of folks and will continue to serve them well. When they came to purchase the truck, we also donated an entire 18’ trailer load of surplus gear and equipment that will benefit multiple fire departments in their area. In the words of a great friend, Pay it Forward….

So lets talk about the fire last night, or the aftermath to be exact . You know when you used to get dvds and there’s the extras, like behind the scenes how it was made? Well here’s all the “extras “no one sees or thinks about after a fire….

First , half of the counties 12 fire departments were on scene, 14 units in all, pumpers, brush trucks, and tankers hauling water. Now it’s 3:30 am and we all return to our respective stations, but wait, have to refuel all these trucks first, then there’s the equipment that was used, it needs to be cleaned, air packs changed and filled, and so on…
Now as for us , since the fire was in our district and we were first on scene, our Engine 1203 was the primary attack unit deploying 3 attack lines and a supply line for tankers to pump water to the engine, a total of 800’ of hose used. As well as our K 12 saw , roof ladder, attic ladder, miscellaneous hooks , axes , etc… Before returning it all gets broken down and rolled up , loaded on the rig . We got back to the house at 4 ish.
After a few hours sleep it’s a new day and guess what? All that hose needs to be washed and dried and put back on the rig ( we carry extra in case of other calls) as well as the equipment used needs to be checked and cleaned, which takes several hours, and you might as well check all the other trucks in the station to see what decided to” break” while its just sitting there… did I forget to mention we all have families and jobs and hobbies and we are all VOLUNTEERS?
So there’s the “ making of a structure fire “ 🔥 all the things people don’t see or hear about after we respond to and emergency in Bosque County. And I should mention that as I’m writing this , Walnut Springs, Meridian and Iredell Vfd’s are fighting a large grass fire , after being up most of the night and doing all the things above, they are back out helping or citizens! And afterwards they will repeat the process above tonight and into tomorrow…
So there’s next time you see any of our dedicated fire departments in the county at work, think of this and think , how can I help them , because the next time the call goes out, it could be you!

Friday night at 11:40 Brazos Point Fire was alerted for the Structure fire in the 800 block CR 2960, Caller reported a metal barn on fire next to the residence. Engine 1203 arrived on scene with a 40x50 metal shop building well involved within 8’ of the residence. Crews made an aggressive attack but had trouble accessing the interior due to the vehicles and contents inside. Firefighters were eventually able to cut through the roll up doors and gain access and extinguish the fire . High wind conditions, falling temps and having to truck in water hampered the firefighting efforts. The building was a total loss , but thanks to the hard work of YOUR Bosque County fire deptartments, the residence suffered only minor exterior fire damage. One firefighter sustained minor burns and was treated on scene. Units cleared the scene around 3:30 am.
A big thank you to all of our local departments that assisted . Kopperl VFD, Lakeside Village VFD , Walnut Springs VFD, Morgan VFD , Meridian VFD, Iredell VFD, Sommervell County FD, North Bosque EMS, Bosque County SO.

Personal note*. All the firefighters that responded last night are VOLUNTEER! They got out of a warm bed in the middle of the night and showed up to help a stranger during an emergency. Please make the effort to help your local department whenever you can. Go to that fundraiser , drop off a small donation, and if you can, volunteer yourself . Everything helps us help you.
