๐ŸŽ… UPDATE! ๐ŸŽ…
Some nasty, stinky, smelly, sticky hair was found by the label printer. Santa's Secret Service was called in to investigate.
The investigators said they wouldn't touch it with a 39 and a half foot pole. So a 45 foot pole was brought in for good measure to collect the evidence.
It was determined that they would need to bring The Grinch in for questioning.
After speaking with Santa he admitted to doing it saying that it was only supposed to be a funny prank. He wanted to change all the names to The Grinch but his fur got stuck in the gears and he only wanted to get a few presents this year. It hurt really bad he said. Santa called the medic team and they cleaned and bandaged the Grinchs hand.
He apologized for almost ruining Christmas and promised to not play any more pranks this year.

We just received a message from Santa Claus!
There was a slight mix up of packaging today in the workshop.
Thousands of presents were mis labeled and going to be sent out to the wrong kids.
Not to worry Santa's amazing quality control department found and fixed this issue.
No delays are expected because of this quickly fixed mistake.
The workshop is in full production mode and sleigh preparations have begun.
We expect to hear from Santa's flight control team tomorrow. Stay tuned...

We want to acknowledge the continued service of Assistant Chief Kyle Kuebler. He was presented with his 25 years of service certificate to the Kouts Fire Department.

Josh Bagnall was also awarded his certificate of 20 years of service to the Kouts Fire Department.

We greatly appreciate their commitment to the Kouts Fire Department and our community.

Every year we choose one firefighter, who has stood out among the rest. Who gave a little bit more to the Fire Department and to the community. Who earned and deserves the title of Firefighter of the Year.

It is never an easy task to choose one over another, but we are proud to present Kouts Fire Departments 2020 Firefighter of the year award to Alex Leman.

These awards are usually presented at our annual Family Christmas party but due to covid related restrictions we were unable to host this party.

We would also like to give recognition to our families! Their understanding and strong support to our members is appreciated beyond words. We want each family that is apart of this fire house to know, we love you and could not do this without you. Your strong showing of support, understanding, and love continues to drive all of us in serving our community.

The awards and certificates were presented by Chief Gettler.

Retired Kouts Fire Department Chief Richard Dick Chael passed away earlier today. Arrangements are pending, we will pass along as they become available. Rest easy Chief, we will take it from here.

๐ŸŽ…SANTA PARADE UPDATE!๐ŸŽ…
Santa was really impressed with how many of our children are on the nice list! He also enjoyed viewing our town from the ground instead of in his sleigh. The signs the kids had, made Santa smile.
Santa loves pictures and video as well. He said he will be checking this post to see if anyone posted them for him to see.
Please comment with your pictures or video so he can share them with his elves back at the North Pole.
Thank you to Kouts ACE and Ziants Mechanical for arranging this wonderful opportunity to have Mr. and Mrs. Claus visit Kouts!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Santa and all of us at Kouts Fire. ๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’

Wake up a little earlier tomorrow. We may see some snow in the morning. PLEASE drive safely and give yourself some extra travel time. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’

Windy and colder weather moves in tonight, with some light snow developing east of I-57 overnight. Lake effect snow showers develop late tonight, and will bring accumulating snow mainly to parts of northwest IN Monday into early Tuesday. Gusty north winds will build large waves on Lake Michigan, which will create lakeshore flooding hazards. Dry and seasonably cool weather returns mid-week.

PROUDLY SERVING OUR COMMUNITY SINCE 1921

Dear Kouts Community,

On behalf of the Kouts Volunteer Fire Department, we would be to thank all of you for your support of our 2019 Fund Drive, including the resident's and businesses of Kouts and Pleasant Township.

Each year, your generous contributions involved with our Annual Fund Drive helped the Kouts Volunteer Fire Department to acquire equipment and execute initiatives, which continue to increase our capabilities to serve the community. In previous years, your donations helped to accuire personal protective equipment, emergency medical gear, a specialized gear washer/extractor, and much more. This year, we are writing to ask for your assistance in helping to purchase much needed equipment. We are seeking to purchase a battery-operated spreader for vehicle extrication.
The Kouts Fire Department responds to auto accidents in our 54 square mile jurisdiction as well as responding, when requested, to mutual aid
needs of our neighboring departments. We cover approximately 7 miles of State Road 49 and 8.5 miles of State Road 8 and many miles of town roads
within the Town of Kouts, and many miles of rural roads within Pleasant Township. We face the possibility of auto-accidents involving everything
from scooters and mini-bikes to cars, trucks and vans. To large semis carying steel coils, dump trucks, and farm machinery including skid steers, tractors, and combines.
The use of battery operated tools for vehicle extrication will speed up our rescue ability to assist patients that are in a critical accident involving
any of the above mentioned motorized vehicles. A battery powered tool is completely self-contained with no additional power unit or hoses required. It is lighter in weight, easier to maneuver, and does not have hose lines that are a tripping hazard. When seconds and minutes count in the treatment of that patient, we are looking for the fastest and safest method to extricate the patient. This tool would help meet that demand.
Our department currently operates 1 battery-operated combination tool.1 battery operated ram, and 2 sets of hydraulic extrication tools. The hydraulic combination tool that we are looking to replace was purchased in 1996 its getting up in years and is very heavy and cumbersome and does not always meet the demands of today's high strength steel vehicles. The power unit is also heavy and must be removed from the truck and brought to within about 20 feet of the accident so the hydraulic Iines will reach.
With our fundraising efforts, our hope is to place a battery operated spreader on our first out engine, Engine 711.
We hope to purchase, either through our current grant writings or with department funds a battery operated cutter to give us a full set of working battery operated tools on the first out engine and our battery operated combination tool would be bumped down to 721 and we would retire the old hydraulic combination
tool and pump.
Each new tool costs approximately $12.000
The importance of this project's need is unquestioned and its execution will immediately improve our firefighters ability to provide unsurpassed services to the residents of our coverage area. This initiative is a priority, and your support of our goal is the only way we will overcome the financial challenge. Please consider helping us reach our critical goal.
We hope you will support our Annual Fund Drive through a tax deductible donation.
Thank you for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,
Jeremy A. Gettler - Fire Chief

Boone Grove Fire Department thank you once again for inviting us to train with you. Our members really enjoyed the opportunity to learn and practice these skills.
Kouts Fire Department members train regularly to learn and practice. Often times we train with mutual aid departments learning the location of their tools and proper use. Knowing this helps us and other departments respond more efficiently.

Kouts Fire

The Kouts Volunteer Fire Department provides Fire Suppression, Rescue, Extrication, HAZMAT, and Emergency Medical Service response to more than four thousand four hundred and thirty two (4,432) residents in a fifty four (54) square mile rural area. Our entire response area is experiencing rapid residential growth. Our Fire Department responds to approximately three hundred (300) calls annually in our service area, which includes emergency response coverage to the Town of Kouts and Pleasant Township in Porter County, Indiana. Our Fire Departmentโ€™s membership is made up of twenty-nine (29) Volunteer Firefighters. Critical infrastructure considerations within our jurisdiction include several underground pipelines, two (2) township schools, a center for youth, and water treatment facilities for the Town of Kouts. Our Department is also a first due mutual aid Company to a major electric generation facility in a bordering jurisdiction.

Our Department prides itself with being one of the most aggressive, well-trained Fire Departments in our area. We identify with and strongly support the necessity of automatic aid and mutual aid, whether giving or receiving, and we are always willing to assist, whether it is a firefighting role, training, or other fire related activities.

Not long after we moved to Kouts, while driving S on Smoke Road we saw a huge, terrible house fire to the right. As I began dialing several emergency vehicles came into view on Rt 8, rushing to the scene they turned N onto Smoke Road. We were amazed and glad that so many 1st responders were on their way. The sights and sounds reminded us of just what a challenging job our first responders have and how totally awesome they are. Praying ๐Ÿ™ that they and their families stay healthy and safe. โค๏ธ
