🎉 EXCITING NEWS FOR WEST GRAND! 🎉

West Grand School District is excited to announce the release of the preliminary 2026 school and district performance ratings from the Colorado Department of Education — and we have a lot to celebrate!

🏆 ALL West Grand schools are rated at the PERFORMANCE level!
🏆 West Grand School District is rated ACCREDITED PERFORMANCE!

These ratings are based on student results from this spring’s CMAS, PSAT, and SAT assessments and reflect the hard work happening across our district.

And there’s even more to celebrate! West Grand Elementary School improved its performance by nearly 20 percentage points! 📈 This significant growth is a testament to the hard work of our students and staff and the continued support of our families and community.

We also know that a test score is only one piece of the puzzle. Our students are so much more than a test score, and the success of our schools cannot be measured by a single rating or assessment. We celebrate the growth of the whole child, including academic achievement, relationships, character, activities, athletics, career and college readiness, and the many ways our students contribute to our school and community.

That said, it is still exciting to see these scores improve! These results provide important information about where our students are growing and where we can continue to focus our efforts. We are proud of the progress and will continue working together to help every Mustang reach their full potential.

Congratulations to our students, teachers, staff, families, and community! We are proud of the work happening at West Grand — Grand Today and Greater Tomorrow! 💜

What is the BEST Grant?

West Grand is excited and grateful to have been awarded a Colorado BEST Grant to support major improvements to our Jr/Sr High School!

BEST is a competitive state grant focused on addressing health, safety, security, and accessibility needs in Colorado public schools. The grant requires a local match (percentage set by the state) and provides an incredible opportunity for West Grand to make improvements to our learning environments.

Learn more about BEST here: https://ed.cde.state.co.us/capitalconstruction/best

For more information, including project details, financing, estimated tax impact, and arguments for and against the measure, visit the district's website at: www.wgsd.us

The district's goal is to provide factual information so voters can make their own informed decisions.

Earlier this week, the Board voted 7-0 to place a no-tax-increase bond on the Nov 2026 ballot to renovate the Jr./Sr. High School to address identified health, safety, security, accessibility, and infrastructure needs.

We are excited about this opportunity and understand that the community will have questions about what’s being proposed and why. We welcome your questions and encourage our stakeholders to learn more, ask questions, and see the needs firsthand. Being informed and engaged is an important part of finding solutions that support our students, families, staff, and community.

Here are several ways to learn more about this proposal and the current condition of our Jr./Sr. High School:
• Visit our district website: www.wgsd.us
• Reach out to Mrs. Bauer at [email protected] or 970-724-3217, or connect with a West Grand School Board member.
• Tour the Jr./Sr. High School and see the needs for yourself. We will offer a community tour on Tuesday, September 15 starting at 7:00pm, or contact us to schedule an individual time to visit.

We are committed to keeping our community informed and having open, honest conversations about this opportunity. We are all invested in the future of West Grand, and we believe the best decisions happen when we have the right information and work together.

🚌 School Bus Safety Refresher for Colorado Drivers 🚌

With school in full swing, here is a quick reminder on Colorado’s school bus laws so we can keep kids safe on their routes:

When to Stop
• Red lights flashing & stop sign out: Drivers in both directions must stop at least 20 feet away—whether you are behind the bus, across the street, or at an intersection.
• Painted medians do NOT count: If the street is divided only by painted lines or a painted turn lane, oncoming traffic MUST stop.
• The ONLY exception: Oncoming traffic may proceed with caution only if directions are divided by a raised median, depressed median, or physical barrier.

When to Move
• Drivers must remain stopped until red lights are no longer flashing. Once the lights turn off and the school bus begins to move, drivers should proceed with caution as children may be crossing or nearby.

It is vital that we work together to keep our children safe on the roads!
