💻 Teen Online Safety 📱

With school out for summer, many teens are spending more time online through social media, gaming, messaging apps, and streaming platforms. The Krugerville Police Department encourages families to have conversations about online safety.

▶ For Parents:
• Know what apps and platforms your children are using
• Monitor online activity and privacy settings
• Encourage open conversations about internet safety
• Set screen time and online boundaries
• Teach teens that online actions can have real-world consequences.

▶ For Kids:
• Never share personal information online
• Keep social media accounts private
• Be cautious when talking to strangers online
• Think before posting photos or videos
• Never agree to meet someone in person without a parent’s knowledge
• Report bullying, threats, or suspicious behavior immediately

The internet can be a great tool for learning and connecting — but safety should always come first.

Online predators activities increase during summer months when teens are online more frequently.

Stay smart. Stay alert. Stay safe online this summer.

Being a responsible driver is simple: if you are drinking, do not drive for any reason. Call a taxi, a ride-sharing service, or a sober friend.

🛑 If someone you know has been drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel. Take their keys and help them arrange a sober ride home.

🚴🏿🚴🏾‍♂️🚴🏼🚴🏻‍♂️ WORLD BICYCLE DAY - Get out a ride!

👀 Watch Out for Bicyclists – Share the Road 🚗

Bicyclists have the same rights to the road as drivers, but they’re much more vulnerable. A moment of awareness can save a life.

✅ Slow down and stay alert
✅ Give at least 3 feet when passing
✅ Check mirrors and blind spots before turning
✅ Never drive or park in bike lanes
✅ Put the phone down—stay focused

Every year, thousands of cyclists are injured or killed in crashes—most of them preventable.

Share the road. Save a life.

KVPD is excited to announce the addition of Officer Byrum as our newest "Crash Detective." Since the start of the year, he has dedicated himself to extensive training to become an Accident Reconstructionist, successfully completing his certification last Friday.

This specialized role involves a thorough investigation of motor vehicle collisions that result in serious bodily injury or death. An Accident Reconstructionist utilizes principles of physics and engineering to analyze evidence and reconstruct the events leading up to an crash.

Rather than merely compiling reports, Officer Byrum can meticulously evaluate factors such as skid marks, vehicle positioning, road conditions, debris fields, and damage patterns. He can employ mathematical calculations to determine critical aspects like speed and impact angles, ultimately providing expert, fact-based insights related to the cause of a crash.

The courses that Byrum completed isn’t for the faint of heart—tons of hard work, long hours, and some next-level brain power—and lot-and-lot-and-lots of math go into this training, but he "crushed it" (pun intended)!

Way to go Officer Byrum !

☀️ Warmer temperatures are approaching and will soon be upon us, so here's a friendly reminder to NEVER leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, not even for a minute.

Even on mild days, the temperature inside a parked car can rise dangerously fast. Cracking the windows does little to reduce the heat. In just minutes, a vehicle can become deadly.

🚗 🔒 Before you lock your car:
• Check the back seat every time
• Keep pets at home when possible
• Place something in the back seat as a reminder
• Ask childcare providers to call if your child does not arrive as expected

👶 In Texas, leaving a child under the age of 8 unattended in a motor vehicle more than 5 minutes, can result in criminal charges, if the child isn't accompanied by someone 14-years of age or older. (Texas Penal Code 22.10).

🐾 Texas laws prohibit leaving pets unattended in a vehicle in a manner that endangers their health or safety. (Texas Penal Code §42.092.

👀 If you see a child or pet left alone in a vehicle and believe they may be in danger, say something. Call 911 immediately.

🌡️ Look before you lock. A few seconds could save a life.

⌛WHEN EVERY SECOND COUNTS ‼️

👀 How visible is your home address? 👀

In an emergency, first responders need to find you fast. 🚑🚒🚓

Can your address be seen clearly from the street?

Check for:
• Vegetation covering your numbers.
• Old, faded, or broken address markers.
• Numbers too small to read from a distance.
• Poor lighting at night.

Seconds matter. Make sure your address is easy to spot — day or night.

A few dollars and a few minutes could make all the difference.
