Welding, cutting, and grinding can quickly start a wildfire when conditions are dry.

Before beginning hotwork, make sure all required safety measures are in place—including proper enclosures, a 20-foot combustible-free area, dedicated fire watch, and an available pressurized water source.

Remember: Wind must be 22 mph or less and relative humidity must be above 20%.

Electrical Fire

Our crews responded to the 380 block of McCart Street for a reported electrical fire. Upon arrival, firefighters located a downed power line, a malfunctioning transformer, and a small grass fire. Fire department personnel secured the area, and Oncor was requested to respond and make the necessary repairs.

Residents in the surrounding area may experience a temporary power outage due to this, while repairs are completed.

The Denton County Commissioners Court has issued a COUNTY-WIDE MANDATORY BURN BAN, effective today, August 25, 2026.

The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning and also includes restrictions on:

🚫 Outdoor hot work, including welding and cutting torch operations
🚫 The use of certain combustible materials
🚫 Other activities identified in the burn ban order that may create an increased fire hazard

Dry conditions across Denton County have significantly increased the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires. Everyone is encouraged to use extreme caution with any activity that could produce heat, sparks, or open flame.

⚠️ Violation of the County Judge’s executive-ordered burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.

KFD responded to multiple grass fires threatening homes today. With the dry conditions and record-breaking temperatures, these fires spread quickly. A quick response and assistance from our mutual aid departments made the difference, and homes were saved. City of Krum Government

Krum Fire Department Supporting Texas Wildfire Operations

Members of the Krum Fire Department continue to support statewide wildfire operations as Texas faces severe drought conditions and an increased threat of wildfires across the state.

Chief Gregory and Firefighter Licea are currently deployed for a two-week assignment serving as Medical Unit Leaders (MEDL), providing critical medical support and coordination for personnel operating on the fire line.

Tomorrow, Captain Hernandez and Firefighter Peralez will relieve Chief Gregory and Firefighter Licea and continue the assignment in support of state fire operations.

With dry conditions contributing to an increase in wildfire starts, numerous state and local resources are positioned across Texas and working together to increase readiness, response capabilities, and protection for communities throughout the state.

We are proud of our members for answering the call beyond our local community and continuing to serve wherever they are needed.
