Hays County Appraisal Review Board Seeks Applicants

The Taxpayer Liaison Officer for the Hays Central Appraisal District is accepting applications for consideration from candidates seeking appointment as Appraisal Review Board (ARB) members for the 2026-2027 term. Appointed members are paid a per diem of $175 plus mileage!

The primary responsibility of the ARB is to weigh evidence and provide resolution of matters relating to appraisal, exemptions and challenges that cannot be resolved informally with the Appraisal District.

Individuals seeking appointment must be a resident of Hays County for at least two years and be current on property tax payments.

An ARB member must be available for in person hearings at the Appraisal District Office in Kyle. Meeting frequency varies depending on the time of the year, but all candidates will need to be available Monday thru Friday May 1st thru August 31st from 8am-5pm.

ARB members do not work for the Appraisal District, nor does the appointment constitute a full-time job.

Hays Central Appraisal District mails notices in stages, so arrival times will vary.

If your neighbor or someone you know receives their notice of appraised value before you, please know that Hays CAD mails over 136,000 notices in stages, so not all property owners will receive notices at the same time.

The majority of value notices were mailed on April 1, 2025, with a file deadline of May 15, 2025.

When your 2025 value notice is mailed, you will see this reflected at the property search level here https://esearch.hayscad.com/ Make sure you toggle to the 2025 year in your search criteria.

Once you retrieve your property information, there will be a button to click that looks like the picture below.

Please note that our website host has had issues getting all value notices uploaded and we appreciate your patience as they work through this issue on their end. Please check back regularly as all appraisal notices sent will indicate the absolute hard deadline for filing a 2025 protest.

Hays County Appraisal Review Board (ARB) Seeks Applicants

The Taxpayer Liaison Officer for the Hays Central Appraisal District is accepting applications for consideration from candidates seeking appointment as Appraisal Review Board (ARB) members for the 2025-2026 term.

The primary responsibility of the ARB is to weigh evidence and provide resolution of matters relating to appraisal, exemptions and challenges that cannot be resolved informally with the Appraisal District.

Individuals seeking appointment must be a resident of Hays County for at least two years and be current on property tax payments. ARB Members may serve all or part of three consecutive terms. An ARB member must be available for in person hearings at the Appraisal District Office in Kyle. Meeting frequency varies depending on the time of the year, but all candidates will need to be available Monday through Friday May 1st thru August 31st from 8-5. ARB members do not work for the Appraisal District, nor does the appointment constitute a full- time job, but members are paid a per diem of $175 per day when conducting hearings plus mileage.

Appraisal Review Board Members are appointed by the Hays County Board of Directors per Section 5.09 of SB2 which amends the current Tax Code 6.414(d) to begin January 1, 2024. Each member can serve two-year terms up to a total of six years. ARB members meet on scheduled days and have one full day of training that is required. All returning and new ARB members are appointed and sworn in on the first meeting in January.
Some of the duties of the ARB are:

• to determine protests initiated by property owners
• determine challenges initiated by taxing units
• correct clerical errors in the appraisal records and the appraisal rolls
• act on motions to correct appraisal rolls under section 25.25
• determine whether an exemption or a partial exemption is improperly granted or denied and whether land is improperly granted or denied a special-use appraisal
• take any other action or make any other determination that this title specifically authorizes or requires

The board may not review or reject an agreement between a property owner or the owner’s agent and the chief appraiser under section 1.111(e) of the Property Tax Code and Remedies.

When: April 15th thru April 19th
Where: Hays Central Appraisal District 21001 N IH 35, Kyle Texas 78640
Time: 9am to 4 pm

What you MUST bring with you to participate:
• Your completed and signed protest form.
• Your completed electronic communication form.
• Your paper copy of your proof of purchase, the district will need to keep this copy.

Your information will be reviewed on site for a possible informal resolution to your protest.

If you do not have the 3 items listed above, you will not be able to meet with an appraiser.

Space will be limited to the first 100 property owners per day during the hours of 9 am to 4 pm and will be done on a first come first serve basis.

1099 SEASONAL JOB POSTING – DATA ENTRY
Job description
This is a seasonal contract position. The chosen candidate will be a 1099 employee for the district. Applicants must be available to begin work on April 15th, 2024, and work Monday through Friday from 8am – 5pm on site at 21001 N IH 35, Kyle Texas 78640. The contract is for 23 weeks, ending on September 30th, 2024. There is no overtime, comp time or holiday pay for this seasonal position. 1 hour for lunch and 2 15-minute breaks daily.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists the protest department and the public during Appraisal Review Board hearings.
• Accurate data entry of property protest information in our appraisal software.
• Preparing and sorting excel lists for use by the protest team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong analytical skills and computer proficient (i.e. Excel, Word, Access, Zoom).
• Ability to research, compile and analyze data; read and interpret legal documents.
• Ability to multitask; organize; problem solve; prioritize and use creative/critical thinking skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills and good practical math abilities.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills.
• Reliable attendance a must as well as transportation with a valid Texas driver’s license.
Education and Work Experience:
• High School diploma or GED required.
