See what services our departments have to offer. Learn about our history – our City turned 100 years old in 2009 – we appreciate having the lowest crime rate in Washington State. Visit our parks – La Center offers a plentiful supply of recreational activities, outstanding soccer and baseball fields, miles of hiking and biking trails, outdoor entertainment at our amphitheatre, kayaking or canoeing

on the East Fork Lewis River - all just a short walk from your front door. The La Center school system offers exceptional education opportunities boasting small class sizes, highly qualified staff, and a low employee turnover rate. Continuing education is readily available at many well-respected local, regional and state colleges and universities. While retaining the small town feel, we are working to expand the small, but growing, commercial and industrial areas. We believe in strong family values that are reflected in all aspects of our community. Spend some time and explore. We hope it will inspire you to visit or, better yet, become part of the La Center community. Discover La Center…..naturally.

Here are the locations and clues for the fifth week of the 250th Commemorative Coin Scavenger Hunt! Reminder - if you find a coin, stop by city hall during business hours to get your goodie bag!

(FOUND) Clue #1: Not by the river, but named like it could be, a coin hides in the park where red and green convene.

(FOUND) Clue #2: Where the river waits and paddlers prepare, find the launch spot with life jackets to spare.

(FOUND) Clue #3: Across from the park where kids run free, A red voting box is the place to be.

(FOUND) Clue #4: Where law and order guide the day, the last coin rests not far away.

We will do our best to update this post as coins are found. If the found coins are not reported to city hall, we cannot update it.

There are still 4 more weeks left of clues! Good luck!

4th St. Widening and Brezee Creek Culvert Replacement Project Update:

Beginning June 15, the reconstruction of 4th St. between Cedar Ave and Highland Road will begin. As part of this project, a new bridge will be built over Brezee Creek. The expected completion date for the 4th St Widening Project and Culvert Replacement is December 2027.

Access to East Stonecreek Drive from East 4th St will be closed for the duration of the project. Signage will be installed to implement a detour to E. Stonecreek Dr. using 5th St. Residents of E. Stonecreek Dr. will have local access using the detour.

During the project, a new two-lane bypass will be constructed on 4th St. to shift traffic to allow for the construction of a new bridge over Brezee Creek. The reduced speed limit will be 20 MPH in the work zone. The bypass lane will allow for eastbound and westbound traffic while the bridge is constructed. Temporary daytime lane closures of 4th St. will occur periodically for the entirety of the project. Flaggers will be present directing single-lane traffic. Traffic will re-open to two lanes outside of the workday.

Pedestrian access will be allowed along 4th St. with crossings to E. Stonecreek Dr. using flashing beacons and flaggers.

The 4th St Widening and Brezee Creek Culvert replacement was funded by federal, state and TIB grants. Following the completion of the project, the creek will allow for safe passage of fish and other wildlife. There will also be a continuous sidewalk on the northside of 4th St. and a 10-ft shared use path on the southside. The shared use path is for both bike and pedestrian use.

For additional questions about the project, please contact the city’s engineering department.

Here are the locations and clues for the fourth week of the 250th Commemorative Coin Scavenger Hunt! Reminder - if you find a coin, stop by city hall during business hours to get your goodie bag!

(FOUND) Clue #2: Books, stories, and metal art too, the La Center Library sign is calling for you.

(FOUND) Clue #3: Two ends to the trail, but only one’s right — Start where Aspen Ave brings Heritage to light.

The City of La Center is launching a Junior City Council advisory committee in collaboration with La Center School District to provide feedback to La Center City Council and city staff on public issues, proposals, resolutions, and ordinances that impact the local youth community. Students will also have the opportunity to identify areas of concern and interest for local youth and present ideas to La Center City Council and city staff.

Applications for the La Center Junior City Council are now open and can be found at - https://forms.gle/mSBHZDYcCGWmz7BS8

Junior councilors will represent their peers and school on local issues, learn more about local government in direct collaboration with city staff and lead meaningful service projects that benefit their community while earning volunteer hours. Upon completion of their term, Junior Councilors will receive a certificate, city coin, and a letter of recommendation or reference from the La Center Mayor for jobs, college applications, and/or scholarships. Graduating seniors will receive Junior Council graduation cords.
