Congratulations, Deputy Anderson!

Congratulations to Deputy Anderson on successfully completing his patrol training at Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station!

On Wednesday, Deputy Anderson was officially signed off from patrol training and earned his Crescenta Valley Station pin, marking an important milestone in his career.

Completing patrol training requires months of hard work, dedication, and learning while preparing deputies to handle the many challenges they will encounter while serving our community.

Deputy Anderson was congratulated by his training officer, Deputy Moon, who helped guide him through the final stages of his training.

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Anderson on this accomplishment. We look forward to seeing him continue to grow and proudly serve the Crescenta Valley community!

Your Car Is Not a Safe Place for Your Valuables

Heading into the mountains for a hike? Before you walk away from your vehicle, take a moment to think about what you're leaving behind.

Trailhead parking areas can be attractive targets for thieves because they know vehicle owners may be gone for hours. A locked door and valuables hidden from view are not always enough to prevent a burglary.

If it's valuable, don't leave it in your vehicle.

Wallets, purses, credit cards, cash, electronics, identification, and other valuables should be left at home or taken with you. Hiding these items under a seat, in a glove box, center console, or even the trunk does not guarantee they are safe. Thieves know where people commonly hide their belongings.

A stolen wallet can also lead to more than a broken window. Credit and debit cards may be used for fraudulent purchases, and stolen identification can create additional problems long after the initial burglary.

When parking at a trailhead:

• Take your valuables with you or leave them at home.
• Lock your vehicle and take your keys.
• Don't leave bags or backpacks behind—even if they're empty.
• Don't arrive at the trailhead and then move valuables into your trunk.
• Never hide a spare key on your vehicle.

The best way to keep thieves from taking valuables from your car is not to leave valuables there in the first place.

Enjoy the trails, but don't give thieves an opportunity.

Time is flying by, ! Community Preparedness Day is almost here. This year's theme is "Rain and Flooding Awareness." ☔️

🚒 Get up close with real fire trucks, search-and-rescue gear, LASD vehicles and meet the Mounted Enforcement Detail equestrian unit!
🎨 Visit the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge's booth for family-friendly preparedness activities, free coloring books and small preparedness kits.
🌿 Join CORE from 7-7:30 p.m. for an interactive plant game using real samples to learn about native fire-resistant plants, flood preparedness and home hardening.

Plus, connect directly with other participating organizations, including Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Highway Patrol, U.S. Forest Service, San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, Crescenta Valley Water District, L.C.U.S.D. 🚦 Don't forget, ! School is back in session, and morning and afternoon traffic will be heavier around campuses during the first several weeks of the year.

Please plan ahead and help keep traffic moving safely by following these tips:
✔️ Leave a few minutes earlier than usual.
✔️ Slow down near schools and residential streets.
✔️ Be patient with other drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists and school buses.
✔️ Do not block intersections, crosswalks or residential driveways.
✔️ Follow crossing guard, traffic control and school personnel directions.

Emergency Lights? Pull to the Right.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has launched its “Emergency Lights? Pull to the Right” public safety campaign to remind motorists what to do when an emergency vehicle approaches.

Every second counts during an emergency. Whether it’s a law enforcement vehicle, fire engine, or ambulance, first responders need drivers to quickly and safely clear the roadway.

California Vehicle Code 21806 requires motorists to pull to the right and stop when an emergency vehicle approaches with its emergency lights and siren activated.

Remember:

• Stay alert: Avoid distractions and keep music at a reasonable volume so you can see and hear approaching emergency vehicles.
• Pull to the right: When safe, signal and move to the right side of the roadway.
• Stop and wait: Remain stopped until the emergency vehicle has passed or you are directed otherwise.
• Clear intersections: If you are already in an intersection, continue through before safely pulling to the right.

Knowing what to do can help first responders reach someone in need faster and, ultimately, help save lives.

When you see emergency lights, pull to the right.

🚗 Reminder, ! More student drivers are hitting the roads for the new academic year, and a safe school year starts with smart choices behind the wheel.

Students, help keep our neighborhood streets safe with these tips:
✔️ Put your phone away before driving.
✔️ Buckle up and make sure every passenger is restrained.
✔️ Follow posted speed limits and school-zone signs.
✔️ Watch carefully for pedestrians, bicyclists and e-bike riders.
✔️ Keep crosswalks and intersections clear.
✔️ Allow extra travel time so there is no need to rush.

Parents and caregivers, please take a few minutes to review safe driving expectations with your student driver before the school year gets busy.
