This week in Washburn 🌱🏡

👉 946 Division Street: drywall continues! Volunteers are chipping away at interior updates and will soon shift to finish the exterior siding and roof repair. We always welcome new volunteers - no construction experience needed!

👉 508 10th Street: Increased demand for modular housing means our delivery date will be later than expected. We can't wait to watch the home land on its brand new foundation!

👉 Washburn Gardens: we're soooo close!! Stay tuned for fall volunteer days and plot reservations for spring 2027.

Cleaning day! 🧹

Our staff spent the day at our warehouse, sorting and organizing our construction team’s tools, building materials, and donated products.

Lots of items will soon be on the shelves at Habitat ReStore La Crosse. You can donate your extra stuff there, too! 😉

Thanks to all our staff for spending the day out of the office and braving the heat. We accomplished a lot! 💪

You’ll create content, manage social media, design promotional materials, support events, and share the impact of affordable housing and sustainability initiatives in the region.

This time next year, this patch of dirt will be bursting with the bounty of late summer - tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, corn…what else?! 🥒🍅🫑🌽

We are honored to team up with Washburn Neighborhood in La Crosse and Three Sixty Real Estate Solutions to revive the beloved Washburn Gardens, where community members can tend their own garden plots in a shared space.

The walkways are poured, the irrigation system is in place, and soon the fun can begin. We’ll schedule volunteer days to build out the garden plots. Thank you to all past & future plot owners for your patience - we can’t wait to build beautiful gardens together!

We've been talking a lot about modular housing, especially as we get closer to placing a modular home in the Washburn Neighborhood of La Crosse. So, what exactly is modular? Maybe more importantly, what is it NOT?!

💡Modular homes are not mobile homes. They're permanent structures built on a foundation - a crawlspace or a full basement.

💡Modular homes are not cheaply built. They're built with standard construction materials in accordance with local building codes.

💡Modular homes are not all the same. They're customizable and designed to fit in with neighborhoods around them.

What a beautiful afternoon for a Team Build! A group from Associated Bank joined us on the Washburn Division St jobsite to lend a hand with interior work. Thank you!

We were honored to receive an $11,000 grant through the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) Foundation's 2025 Housing Grant Program to support construction at our Washburn development.

WHEDA CEO Elmer Moore presented the check to our Executive Director Kahya Fox this afternoon, right here in Washburn, in front of our active build sites at 10th & Division Streets.

We also celebrated our partners Couleecap, Inc. receiving $344,000 to boost financial education for aspiring homebuyers - a critical resource for future Habitat homeowners in our region!
