Indiana Landmarks highlights the #1 preservation story of 2025, the newly created Friends of the Medaryville Gymnasium and their efforts to preserve the Old Medaryville Gym!! Excellent work by a very small community to save an old building near and dear to their hearts.

“Friends of the Community Schoolhouse” has a great ring to it!! Wouldn’t it be great to have a group of local residents collaborate to form a supportive organization for our historic schoolhouse?

At Monday’s school board meeting, the Tri-Township school board announced it would transfer the LaCrosse School Building to the nonprofit Community Schoolhouse Inc after their current bond project is completed.

This transfer will have no cost. However, CSI’s board of trustees had initially requested a small portion of money that the school would have had to spend on demolition of the building. This money would serve as a seed fund to help with maintenance costs until fund sources are secured. Without this seed fund, we are going to need to start fundraising immediately.

So let us rally together to support Community Schoolhouse Inc.’s crucial mission to transform the former LaCrosse school building into a vibrant community center. The time has come to raise funds, spread awareness and build an army of volunteers. This project will bring essential services, addressing a critical need in our community. Our historic schoolhouse has long since been the town’s anchor. Join us as we work to save this beloved landmark. We will not only preserve history but also create a hub for connection, support, and opportunity. Every hand, every voice and each donation will help us to build a brighter future for our community.
