Over the last several months, the La Crosse Police Department has worked closely with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue to educate and partner with local establishments on responsible beverage service. Yesterday, we continued to enhance those efforts by hosting a training with the La Crosse City Clerk, La Crosse County Health Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue to assist servers, managers, and business owners on ways to recognize false identification, license and renewal applications, alcohol laws, responsible beverage service, and several other topics. Thank you to everyone who attended and for your joint efforts to keep our community safe.

Please remember to drive safely and be patient with other drivers. Here is an important message from Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

When it comes to merging for lane closures, there are some misconceptions out there. The truth is this - using all lanes until the merge point, and then zipper merging, will help us all get where we’re going more efficiently. The zipper merge can reduce traffic backups by as much as 40%.

Every day we respond to calls and help people during some of the most difficult times in their lives. It is a rare occasion when we get the opportunity to reconnect with the people we helped later on down the road.

Over the summer, Sergeant Colin Sherden had the opportunity to meet with a family whom he helped 6 years ago. The Hickman family was in town visiting family, and Talan (pictured below with Sergeant Sherden) was swimming at Pettibone Beach when he was swept away in the current. Sergeant Sherden acted quickly and was able to drop a life vest down to Talan so he could use it until the rescue boat arrived on scene. Talan was safely brought back to shore.

Fast forward six years: Talan's mom, Allison, reached out to Sergeant Sherden while they were back in town visiting, and Talan and Sergeant Sherden shared a very happy reunion. Thank you to the Hickman family for allowing us to share this incredible story.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of NRO Josh Rollins to Investigator.

NRO (Neighborhood Resource Officer) Josh Rollins is being appointed to the assignment of Investigator. He has been with the department since February of 2014. He has served as a patrol officer and as an NRO. Prior to joining the La Crosse Police Department, he began his law enforcement career in 2006 in Asheville, North Carolina. During his time with Asheville Police, he spent time in patrol, investigations and assigned to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Please help us congratulate Investigator Josh Rollins on his accomplishments. We are excited about the next step in his career as he continues serving the La Crosse Community.
