YWCA La Crosse joins 6 other local YWCA associations from across the country selected as Thought Partners who will serve as learning collaborators and co-creators, playing a central role in shaping the creation of YWCA’s youth character and leadership development initiative that will benefit more than 190 associations across the country.
“Our local YWCA associations are closest to the young people and communities we serve, and that insight is exactly why these Thought Partners were chosen,” said YWCA USA CEO Margaret Mitchell. Through Youth Leadership in Action, we are intentionally building a youth-led initiative, one shaped by young people themselves, lifting up the voices of youth in our movement with guidance from Local Associations that understand how character, leadership, and community change are developed on the ground.
“We are honored that YWCA La Crosse has been selected as a Thought Partner in YWCA USA’s Youth Leadership in Action initiative,” said Rosanne Northwood, Executive Director of YWCA La Crosse. “At YWCA La Crosse, we see every day the power of investing in young people through our youth programming, child care services, restorative practices work, and programs addressing youth homelessness and housing instability. Our support of our local Youth Action Board, made up of young people ages 14 to 24, brings critical lived experience and leadership to conversations about housing and community solutions. Being part of this national effort allows us to help shape a youth-led initiative that reflects the real needs, strengths, and voices of young people in our communities. We are excited to collaborate with YWCA associations across the country to strengthen leadership pathways and create meaningful opportunities for youth to lead change.”
