Keep Katherine on City Council

Keep Katherine on City Council Hello and welcome! My name is Katherine and I represent the 5th district on City Council. The experience we need. The voice we deserve. AAPFB Svitavsky for Council

Please vote on April 2 so I can continue providing excellent representation to our district! Katherine Svitavsky represents the 5th district on the City of La Crosse Common Council. The fifth district, made up of mostly UW-L students living on campus, is south of La Crosse Street, west of Campbell Road, east of 14th Street North, and North of State and Main Streets. If you vote at UW-L's REC, then

you are in the 5th district. BIOGRAPHY
Originally from Neenah, WI, Katherine is currently a student at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse studying Political Science and Public Administration. She is also an RA in Hutch Hall, very active on campus, and loves to talk about projects and issues within our community. Because the office of Council Member is non-partisan, Katherine has been able to work on issues without being bogged down by traditional party politics, contributing to more collaboration and better solutions for La Crosse. ISSUES
Katherine has worked on several issues in her time on the Council. Because she is a UW-L student, RA, and has experience from several student organizations, Katherine truly understands student and community needs. Safe Streets
-Initiated the introduction of signs drawing attention to intersections
-Making streets around campus safer by presenting legislation for more lighting on La Crosse Street
-Supported and advocated for the passage of a bike/pedestrian master plan to make La Crosse more bike and walking-friendly

Better Housing
-Supports neighborhood revitalization
-Represents students on campus area neighborhood association
-Maintain services while holding the line on taxes, translating to lower rents

Easier Parking
-Worked to extend the alternate side parking exemption around the UW-L campus to ease vehicle flow in neighborhoods while UW-L's new parking ramp is being built
-Communicated with UW-L's Student Association and Residence Hall Association to equip students with information about parking

VALUES
-Advocating for students
-Neighborhood revitalization
-Responsible use of taxpayer money

As we get back into the swing of things this semester, the La Crosse Police Department and University Police have advised those living in the UW-L/WTC campus area to consider several safety precautions in response to a recent string of burglaries.

General Safety guidelines should be:
1. Make your home look occupied and make it difficult to break in.
2. Lock all outside doors and windows before you leave the house or go to bed. Even if it’s for a short time, lock your doors.
3. Leave lights, radio or TV on when you go out. Use a timer if you will be gone for a length of time.
4. Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
5. Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
6. Have adequate outside lighting with motion sensitive lights.
7. Be a good neighbor. If you notice anything suspicious in your neighborhood, call the police.
