Who would have thought Mosquitoes would have their own day?! Yet, here we are!! Remember to use your repellant, not just today but everyday!

World Mosquito Day:

World Mosquito Day commemorates the groundbreaking discovery made on August 20, 1897, by British physician Sir Ronald Ross, who identified female Anopheles mosquitoes as the transmitters of malaria between humans. This finding transformed public health efforts, leading to targeted mosquito control programs that have saved millions of lives. The day is now used to raise awareness about malaria prevention, ongoing research, and the importance of combating vector-borne diseases that still threaten millions worldwide.

Celebrating this amazing woman Terri Deuel today! Terri stayed with the Health Department longer than she planned, to help get us going again! We will be forever grateful that she did and will miss her tremendously! Terri’s last day with us will be Wednesday, May 20th, 2026! Thanks for everything Terri!

The Health Department will have altered hours & services on Tuesday 5/19/26 and Wednesday 5/20/26, due to staff attending Immunization Conference. Phones will on and available, you can call and schedule an appointment or leave a message for the staff. Immunizations and services will not be available. Hours of operation on Tuesday and Wednesday will be from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Water samples can still be dropped off on Wednesday and will be delivered as normal. If dropped off before 9:00 am, we just ask that you place them in job box down in front of our entrance. Thank you.

The Rush County Health Department is working with Community Partners to establish several Community Gardens in the Rush County Community, starting in La Crosse. We are looking for a few items to help us get started. If anyone has any 2x8 or 2x10 treated, warped lumber, or a no good to you or your cattle 6ft or 8ft oblong stock tanks we would love to take them off your hands. We are also looking for anyone who would like to volunteer, we are always grateful for any assistance. If you are willing to help or have anything we are looking for, please give us a call at 785-222-3427.
