Need or know someone who could benefit from a “File of Life”?

Stop by City Hall or flag down an officer, we keep them with us and would be happy to provide one!

The La Cygne Police Department and the La Cygne Fire Dept. are proud recipients of a grant awarded through First Option Bank and the Louis & Dolpha Baehr Foundation to assist with the purchase of additional portable radios for BOTH departments!

Through this funding, the Police Department received five (5) new portable radios, while the Fire Department received six portable radios along with a six-bank charging station designed to remain onboard a fire apparatus. This setup is especially beneficial for the unique needs of a volunteer fire department, helping ensure equipment remains charged, accessible, and ready for emergency response at all times.

Reliable communication equipment is one of the most important tools our first responders rely on each day. These additional radios will enhance communication capabilities, improve coordination during emergencies, and help ensure the safety of both responders and the community we serve.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to First Option Bank and the Louis & Dolpha Baehr Foundation for their continued support of public safety and rural communities. Grants such as this make a meaningful impact and help provide our departments with the tools needed to better serve the citizens of La Cygne, without impacting our budgets.

Thank you for investing in our community and in safety!

🚔 Soooo an officer introduction... of sorts to make…😁

Now before anyone says:
“Wait… hasn’t he been here?”
Yes. Yes he has. 😅

Officer Lewis has actually been serving the La Cygne Police Department in a part-time role for over a year buuuut we’re just a little late on the official Facebook introduction due to scheduling conflict and photo opportunities!

However, in that time, he has shown to be a dedicated and professional officer, and we greatly appreciate his service!

So while he may not be “new,” we still want to publicly thank Officer Lewis for his continued service to our community! 👏🚔

**A Message from the Chief**
As we recognize National Police Week, I want to take a moment, on behalf of the Police Department, to publicly thank and recognize our officers for the work they do each and every day.

Law enforcement is not an easy profession. Our officers are called to handle situations that are often stressful, unpredictable, and emotionally difficult, yet they continue to serve this community with professionalism, compassion, and dedication. Whether it’s answering emergency calls, checking on residents, assisting during storms, helping at community events, or simply being present when someone needs help, their commitment to La Cygne does not go unnoticed.

I am extremely proud of the officers serving this department and the way they represent this community. Small-town policing requires building relationships, earning trust, and wearing many hats, but just because we are “small town” does not mean we are incapable or underqualified. Our officers train, respond, adapt, and serve with the same professionalism and dedication expected anywhere else, all while knowing our community members on a first-name basis. Our officers rise to that task every day.

I also want to recognize the families behind our officers. The long hours, holidays worked, and late-night calls impact them as well, and their support is deeply appreciated.

To our officers: Thank you for your dedication, your integrity, and your continued service to the City of La Cygne. On a personal note, I could not be the Chief I strive to be without each and every one of you. Again, we appreciate everything you do.

— Zachary Mathies, Chief of Police

During National Police Week, we’re highlighting our department!
You might not expect to find a fluent Spanish speaker serving in a rural community, but we are grateful that we do!

May 10th through May 16th is National Police Week-
A time to honor the law enforcement officers across our nation who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and to recognize those who continue to serve with courage, professionalism, and dedication each day.

Throughout the week, officers with the La Cygne Police Department will wear mourning bands across their badges as a visible sign of remembrance and respect for the fallen heroes whose service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We are grateful not only for our own officers, but also for the strong partnerships and support we receive from neighboring agencies, dispatchers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and all first responders who serve alongside us.

Please join us this week in remembering the fallen and supporting those who continue to wear the badge with honor.
