**A Message from the Chief**
As we recognize National Police Week, I want to take a moment, on behalf of the Police Department, to publicly thank and recognize our officers for the work they do each and every day.
Law enforcement is not an easy profession. Our officers are called to handle situations that are often stressful, unpredictable, and emotionally difficult, yet they continue to serve this community with professionalism, compassion, and dedication. Whether it’s answering emergency calls, checking on residents, assisting during storms, helping at community events, or simply being present when someone needs help, their commitment to La Cygne does not go unnoticed.
I am extremely proud of the officers serving this department and the way they represent this community. Small-town policing requires building relationships, earning trust, and wearing many hats, but just because we are “small town” does not mean we are incapable or underqualified. Our officers train, respond, adapt, and serve with the same professionalism and dedication expected anywhere else, all while knowing our community members on a first-name basis. Our officers rise to that task every day.
I also want to recognize the families behind our officers. The long hours, holidays worked, and late-night calls impact them as well, and their support is deeply appreciated.
To our officers: Thank you for your dedication, your integrity, and your continued service to the City of La Cygne. On a personal note, I could not be the Chief I strive to be without each and every one of you. Again, we appreciate everything you do.
— Zachary Mathies, Chief of Police
