As we move into the summer months, activity in dispatch is beginning to increase. Historically, this time of year brings a higher volume of calls for service, increased radio traffic, and a greater overall workload. As these demands continue to grow, your professionalism, teamwork, and dedication remain critical to our success.

Thank you for the hard work, commitment, and care you bring to this profession every day. Whether answering a 9-1-1 call, coordinating resources, or supporting first responders in the field, your efforts make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Our 9-1-1 dispatchers are truly the best of the best, and I am proud to work alongside such an exceptional team. **May 2026 data**

In recognition of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day (May 15th, 2026), the La Grande Police Department honors the local law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We remember LGPD Corporal Gary L. Byassee, who died in the line of duty on May 23, 1982, after succumbing to injuries sustained during a training incident.

We also remember Union County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Michael L. Cheney and Raymond Williams, who died on November 5, 1980, after their vehicle was struck by an impaired driver while returning from a search and rescue mission.

And we remember Oregon State Police Trooper Amos Helms, who was shot and killed while confronting a bank robbery suspect on December 29, 1931.

We thank these officers for their service, courage, and sacrifice.

They are not forgotten.
