End of an Era – 3-116 CAV Concludes Gunnery with the Last Main Gun Rounds Fired Down Range.
July 30th, 2025, marked a significant moment in the history of 3-116 Cavalry. Our Troopers fired the final M1A2 Abrams main gun rounds downrange on Range 26 at the Orchard Combat Training Center in Idaho.
This live fire event isn’t just the culmination of rigorous training; it represents the closing of a chapter for this Battalion and the iconic M1A2 platform. For decades, the 3-116 CAV has been at the forefront of armored warfare, honing our skills and maintaining readiness to answer our nation’s call.
But our legacy extends far beyond the Tank itself. Since its inception, the 3-116th has proudly served Oregon and the United States, contributing to both state and federal missions. From domestic operations to overseas deployments, our Troopers have consistently demonstrated courage, discipline, and a commitment to excellence. We’ve built a proud tradition of service deeply rooted in the communities we defend across Oregon.
As we look to the future and embrace new changes, we carry with us the lessons learned and the bonds forged through years of dedication and teamwork. We honor the past, celebrate the present, and remain steadfast in our commitment to protecting our freedoms.
