Public Service Announcement: On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, North 2nd Street will be closed from Division to Blackhawk Trail for the installation of a new sewer service line. The closure will last from 7 am until the work is completed. It is anticipated that the closure will last through Wednesday afternoon. On Monday, March 2nd, C Avenue from 2nd Street to Cedar Street will be closed for installation of a new sewer service line. Downtown Sidewalk Work Taking Place on Adams Avenue Today, December 29, 2025:

A contractor for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be completing some preliminary investigation work for the upcoming ADA curb-ramp upgrades. The work will include the drilling of multiple sidewalks sites and will require some short-term sidewalk closures. The work will not impact any travel lanes or parking on Adams Avenue, although will require some temporary sidewalk detours. Signage will be placed to provide guidance on where it is safe to walk during the work.

Public Service Announcement: ROAD CLOSURE...

16th Street from Gekeler Avenue to H Avenue will be closed on Tuesday, November 4th, beginning at 7 am and continuing until work is finished (anticipated to be reopened around 3 pm).

City crews will be working within the roadway to construct a new sewer manhole, so no through traffic is allowed/possible. Please refrain from parking on the street during construction.

Local access to get to your home or work is possible. Below is a map identifying the area of the sewer work. Areas to the south of the work area on 16th Street can be accessed from Gekeler Avenue, while areas north of the work site are accessible from H Avenue.

The below misleading post concerning the City of La Grande's water system has been circulating on Social Median today. What the graphic does not state is that the City of La Grande's drinking water is in full compliance with federal and state drinking water standards. In fact, the group that generated this graphic does state this on their website (see screenshot below). The graphic is referencing a self-generated "Health Guideline" when making the claim that the City's water is unsafe and tested in excess of the standard.

To be clear, the City of La Grande municipal water system has completed all required testing and exceeds all requirements put forth by federal and state regulatory agencies. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Public Works as (541) 962-1325.

Road Closure:

Public Works Crews will be closing Monroe Avenue from Island Avenue to Greenwood Avenue tomorrow, Wednesday August 27th, to complete work associated with the Safe Route to Schools Sidewalk project. The closure will begin around 6 am and continue until the work is completed.

Roadway Project Notification:

Crews will be paving X Avenue between Spruce Street and North Cherry Street, Wednesday July 30th. The roadway will be closed and no parking or driving will be allowed on X Avenue during the work. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of the day on July 30th.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

A water main break has been discovered on Island Avenue near Albany Street (In Front of McDonalds). The main will need to be shut off to make repairs to the main, which will halt service to all businesses from Albany Street to Interstate 84. There is no timeline on completion of the repairs and reinstatement of the service at this time but we will update this posting when we have isolated the leak and can establish what work needs to be done.

***UPDATE: 12:45 pm Repairs to the water main have been completed, and water to the surrounding businesses has been restored. Crews will complete the backfilling of the excavation and site cleanup and anticipate having the Right-Of-Way open later today.

Public Service Announcement:

City Crews will be working with Union County Public Works Department to complete chip sealing of Y Avenue (2nd Street to Spruce Street) and Spruce Street (I-84 Overpass to Monroe Avenue).

The work will be completed on Tuesday, July 29th, starting at 7:00 am and continue until the work is completed. Current estimates have work being completed by the end of the work. Expect road closures and detours on the project roadways during the work.

In an effort to achieve the highest quality driving surface from the project, please use alternate routes when possible and avoid parking on the roadways. If your home borders the project area please refrain from running sprinklers or any other irrigation that would get the roadway wet during construction.
