The September eSpot is out.

Dates worth putting on the fridge: no school Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. Picture Day and Family Math Night both land on Thursday, September 24. The PTO Silent Auction runs from 8:00 AM on September 11 to noon on September 18.

Also inside: Boy Scout Recruit Night is Tuesday, September 1, spirit wear orders close September 10, the PTO meeting is Monday, September 14, and Restaurant Night at Seasoned Pub & Grill is Tuesday, September 22, with 10% of sales going back to the PTO.

Mrs. Mader introduces PurposeFull People, the character program our students are using this year, with a family letter linked in English and Spanish. PTO volunteer sign-up is open too.

Ms. Payne's third graders got a stack of index cards and one rule: nothing to stick them together with. No glue and no tape, so whatever they built had to hold itself up.

They folded, bent, rolled, and stacked, and they watched a lot of towers come down. Every time one fell, they worked out why and built it back taller.

That is exactly why we take the tape away. Without it the only things holding a structure up are shape and balance, and these third graders found that out for themselves, one collapse at a time.

Nice work, Ms. Payne's class!
