Storms can happen at any time of year, and the best time to prepare is before severe weather is in the forecast. As we recognize National Preparedness Month, take a few minutes this week to build or refresh your emergency kit. Include essentials like bottled water, nonperishable food, flashlights, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, medications, phone chargers, and important documents.

πŸ’§ Fayette Electric Cooperative is proud to support organizations that make a difference in our communities!

Through our Community Reinvestment Grant Program, Fayette EC recently awarded a $5,000 grant to Lavaca Swimming Pool to help expand water safety education, swimming lessons, lifeguard training, and wellness programs for residents of Lavaca County and surrounding communities.

Best of all, these locally reinvested funds do not come from member electric rates. Instead, the program utilizes eligible unclaimed capital credits that would otherwise be turned over to the state, allowing Fayette EC to reinvest those dollars back into the communities we serve.

As temperatures continue to climb, keep these extreme heat safety tips in mind. Staying cool and safe is a community effort. If you're looking for ways to manage summer energy use, remember that raising your thermostat a few degrees when you're away and using ceiling fans can help reduce energy costs while keeping your home comfortable.

Let’s stay safe, stay cool and take care of one another this summer.

πŸ“šπŸ’œ Honoring Dolly's Legacy πŸ’œπŸ“š

Dolly Parton believed every child deserves the chance to dream big through the power of books. Her Imagination Library has inspired millions of young readers, and her legacy continues every time a child opens a new book. She built this program to serve generations of children, and that mission will continue.

Here at Fayette Electric Cooperative, Dolly's dream is making a difference. Through our local Dolly Parton's Imagination Library fund, FEC has provided books to more than 823 children, helping foster a love of reading and learning from an early age.

If you'd like to honor Dolly's memory, please consider making a donation to the Fayette Electric Cooperative Charitable Donor-Advised Fund. All donations directly support our local Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program, providing free books to children in our community. πŸ“šπŸ’œ

πŸ”Œ Extension cords are for temporary use only. They should never be a permanent fix for a lack of outlets. Long-term use can lead to overheating, damaged cords, and increased fire risks. Choose permanent electrical solutions to keep your home or workplace safe.

πŸŒͺ Hurricane season continues through November, and preparation starts long before severe weather arrives.

βœ… Build an emergency kit. βœ… Only operate portable generators outside, away from doors, windows & vents. βœ… Charge devices before storms arrive.

Taking a few simple steps today can help keep your family safer and more comfortable during an extended outage.

When severe storms roll our way, you can rest easy knowing we’re monitoring conditions and ready to respond to any outage. We encourage you to be prepared, too.
