We also remind drivers to slow down, stay alert and always stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing and stop signs are extended. A few moments of patience can help keep our students safe.

Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29th, for our Annual Back-to-School Event at La Grulla Municipal Park from 6:00 PM until supplies last.

FREE school supplies will be distributed to children who are present at the event. We will also have FREE hot dogs and refreshments for those attending.

Our Municipal Swimming Pool will be FREE and open to the public from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, so come out early and enjoy an afternoon at the pool before the event!

Local businesses, organizations, and community members will also be on site providing resources, supplies, and more.

We look forward to seeing you and your family there!

🚫 Effective July 27, 2026, the Starr County Commissioners Court has officially enacted a 90-day Burn Ban for the unincorporated areas of Starr County.

🚫 Effective July 27, 2026, the Starr County Commissioners Court has officially enacted a 90-day Burn Ban for the unincorporated areas of Starr County due to ongoing drought conditions and the increased risk of wildfires.

With the extremely dry conditions and high temperatures, any outdoor burning can quickly become a dangerous wildfire, threatening lives, homes, livestock, and our first responders.

We ask everyone to:

* ❌ Do not burn trash, brush, or debris.
* 🚬 Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials.
* 🚗 Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.
* 🔥 Use extreme caution with equipment that may create sparks.
* 📞 Report any smoke or fire immediately by calling 911.

⚠️ Violating the burn ban may result in a Class C misdemeanor with fines of up to $500.

Our firefighters are committed to protecting our community, but we need everyone’s help to prevent unnecessary wildfires. Thank you for doing your part to keep Starr County safe.

With the current record-breaking temperatures, Heat Advisory, and Extreme Fire Danger, now is the time for everyone to take extra precautions to help protect their homes and families.

Fires can start for many different reasons, which is why practicing fire safety every day is so important. Taking a few preventive steps now can help reduce the risk of a fire in your home.

Here are some important reminders:
🔥 Never leave cooking unattended.
🔥 Keep flammable materials away from heat sources.
🔥 Avoid overloading electrical outlets and extension cords.
🔥 Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials.
🔥 Keep grills, fire pits, and other open flames well away from homes and dry vegetation.
🔥 Do not do any outdoor burning, as they could create sparks or open flames.
🔥 Avoid parking vehicles or operating equipment on dry grass.
🔥 Test your smoke alarms regularly and replace batteries as needed.
🔥 Keep a fire extinguisher in your home and make sure everyone knows how to use it.
🔥 Check your electrical system. If your home has older wiring or breakers, consider having them inspected by a licensed electrician.
🔥 Review your homeowners or renters insurance coverage to ensure your home and belongings are adequately protected.

Update

Firefighters from La Grulla Fire Department, alongside La Casita Fire Department and our mutual aid partners, remain on scene behind Circle 7 conducting overhaul operations.

Crews are working diligently to locate and extinguish any remaining hot spots to ensure the fire is completely out and to help prevent any rekindles. We appreciate everyone’s patience as operations continue and thank all responding agencies for their teamwork and dedication.

Please continue to avoid the area until all emergency personnel have cleared the scene.
