Dad and I spent an hour or so Christmas Eve cleaning up around the shop. In the short term he will be using this as a space to refinish furniture (PSA: If you need your antique furniture refinished you know who to call!!). In the long term I hope this space can simply be brought back to life and serve multiple purposed. Some immediate things I have in mind would be family gatherings, a studio space for me to create art and photography when I'm home, a place for Dad to keep working and explore his hobbies and vocations as well. Thinking out loud...It would be so cool to have a land line telephone in there some day. Can you picture it? "Thanks for calling the Sharpe Shop, Tyler speaking..." ๐Ÿ˜

(Back in September) A view of the exterior of the Sharpe Shop that shows the nice work Dad does painting it year after year (right side) and the remnants of the old Sinclair service station days when the outside was painted white (left side). I'm excited that we've revealed those old windows, however we can't fully uncover the interior boards covering the windows until after Winter. It will be really cool to see all that light come in that we've never seen before...as those windows have been boarded up since before Ma & Papa owned it.

A tiny bit of progress at the shop the other day with Dad! The east wall has been walled off and windows boarded up for decades. Sometime soon theyโ€™ll be completely exposed again (but will lose the insulation it currently has) Oh well! Should be cool.

A pretty sad before/after but that's how progress works! The old bathroom at the shop has probably been used as a catch-all for longer than I know. I was able to throw away two garbage cans full of junk, dry wall and plaster. On the other side of the wall with the toilet and sink is actually a closed off Women's restroom, which was only accessible from the outside in its Gas Station days. However that outside door is sealed off...but we'll take care of that:) Thanks for the help Dad.

Stopped by the La Harpe Historical Society today to research some old Quills and found this ad! "Carey's Sinclair Service" we can surely assume is now our little Sharpe Shop. Interesting all around. Also...stop by the Historical Society sometime and show your interest or even donate to help keep it going. The men and women up there have worked so hard to preserve our little town's history.

Quick history on the shop:
1. It's an old Sinclair Gas Station built in the early 30's
2. My Grandparents turned it into "The Sharpe Shop" where they sold antiques and second hand items
3. My Dad used it for years refinishing furniture
4. More recently used during the holidays for Country Christmas in La Harpe
5. Now?.....who knows;)
