📣⚾CELEBRATING OUR SCHOOLS: La Joya High School Graduate Makes School History with All-State Baseball Honors

La Joya High School graduate Matt Ortiz has made school history after earning a spot on the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA) Elite All-State Baseball Team and being selected to participate in the THSBCA All-State All-Star Game.

According to La Joya ISD, Ortiz is the first baseball player in La Joya High School history to receive an invitation to the prestigious All-State All-Star Game, marking a significant milestone for the school's baseball program.

District officials praised Ortiz for his hard work, dedication, and leadership both on and off the field. His accomplishments have earned him statewide recognition and cemented his place in school history.

A member of the Class of 2026, Ortiz will continue his academic and athletic journey at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he is expected to further develop his baseball career.

🎉🍎 CELEBRATING OUR SCHOOLS: La Joya High School Student Earns Rare Outstanding Performer Award at UIL State Solo & Ensemble Festival

Elian Maldonado, a student at La Joya High School, has received the prestigious Outstanding Performer Award at the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Festival, one of the highest honors in Texas music competition.

The award is given to only about 2% of participants statewide. Judges described Maldonado as a “rare talent,” highlighting the exceptional artistry and musicianship he displayed during his performance.

Maldonado, an accomplished pianist, is also a member of both the La Joya High School Orchestra and Mariachi programs. His achievement caps years of dedicated practice and commitment to the fine arts, showcasing the level of excellence students can reach through consistent hard work and passion for music.

The UIL State Solo & Ensemble Festival brings together top musicians from across Texas for rigorous adjudication. Earning this recognition places Maldonado among an elite group of young performers recognized at the highest level of competition.

Preliminary 2026 STAAR EOC results show that La Joya ISD students outpaced the state in growth across all five EOC subjects, demonstrating continued academic progress and achievement throughout the district. ❤️🖤

🌟 Growth exceeded state gains in:

✅ Biology (+16 points)
✅ English I (+5 points)

✅ U.S. History (+9 points)
