Rio Abajo Community Library

Rio Abajo Community Library The greatest nonprofit, rural library in the Southwest had to close due to the lack of volunteers. We primarily function on old fashioned, Western grit.

Permanently closed.

A non-profit, community owned and volunteer-operated public library and community center that is located over 30 miles from the nearest town. We receive approximately $3,000 each year (state and county funds), which overs most of our heating costs. The rest of our overhead is from donations and fund-raisers. We serve 14 villages made up of farmers and ranchers who desire the best for their familie

s and have big dreams for their kids (is this any different in cities?). Although we have big dreams -- including the dream of having a real library building one day -- we all pitch in and keep our library open with books (most are donated), some public computers, and willingness by all the volunteers to benefit the community!
