The La Junta Animal Shelter is a holding facility for dogs that are found and brought in by La Junta Code Enforcement and Otero County Sheriffs Department. Staff at La Junta Animal Shelter does not pick up dogs nor do staff do welfare checks on any animals. If you see a stray or need an animal welfare check done the law enforcement agency the animal is located in will need to be called. La Junta Animal Shelter only deals with dogs after they brought into the facility. If you are unable to make it to the shelter during hours posted call or text to set up appointment but please be considerate of our time and making your appointment on time. We are not responsible for making sure you pick up your dog in a timely matter. Thank you!!!
