WEATHER UPDATE: 1 p.m. 9/1/2026

Tropical Storm Edouard is making landfall east of Sabine Pass along the Texas-Louisiana border. Impacts in Galveston County are expected to remain limited, with periods of rain remaining the primary concern.

Wind gusts have been reduced to approximately 30 mph and are expected to continue decreasing through the evening.

Sustained winds are expected to remain around 20 mph or less before diminishing later tonight.

The heaviest rain bands have shifted eastward, reducing expected rainfall totals for our area.

3 to 5 inches of rain remain possible across portions of Galveston County.

A Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall remains in place through today, with conditions expected to improve tomorrow.

Localized street flooding remains possible in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

Storm surge impacts are expected to remain confined to coastal areas east of Galveston County.

The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management is working closely with the US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas and our local, state, and federal partners to monitor the storm and coordinate any response that may be needed.

If you’re out and about this afternoon/evening, please drive carefully. If we see periods of heavy rainfall, remember: Turn around, don’t drown. Never drive through a flooded roadway.

The City is responding to an emergency repair involving a major sewer line near the intersection of Bayou Road and Main Street (FM519). Residents should expect traffic delays, lane impacts, and active work zones in the area as crews assess and repair this critical wastewater infrastructure.

Initial assessments indicate the failure involves an 18-inch steel sewer line encased in concrete. Evaluation found that the line has collapsed from the intersection to a nearby manhole, affecting approximately 575 feet of sewer line. Due to the extent of the damage, a contractor is evaluating repair options to improve long-term reliability.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution, follow all traffic control devices, and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area. Because this repair involves underground wastewater infrastructure, weather conditions, particularly heavy rainfall, could affect construction activities, traffic impacts, and the condition of the damaged line.

The City of La Marque Office of Emergency Management is monitoring Tropical Depression Five, which is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm tonight. Elevated rainfall totals remain the primary concern for our area, with the greatest impacts expected during the day Tuesday.

What Residents Need to Know

Tropical Depression Five is expected to strengthen to a tropical storm by tonight.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for portions of Galveston County.

Heavy rainfall remains the primary threat, particularly along and east of Interstate 45.

Rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected, with isolated amounts of 6 to 9 inches possible.

The highest impacts are expected Tuesday.

Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are possible, with gusts up to 40 mph, especially along the coast.

Flash flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying, urban, and flood-prone areas.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware, monitor trusted weather sources, and be prepared for changing conditions. National Night Out is October 6

The La Marque Police Department, La Marque Fire Department and City of La Marque leadership team invite residents to participate in National Night Out 2026, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in neighborhoods throughout La Marque.

National Night Out is a nationwide event that brings neighbors, law enforcement, firefighters and community leaders together to strengthen relationships, promote neighborhood safety and build a stronger community.

Throughout the evening, members of the La Marque Police Department, La Marque Fire Department and City leadership will visit registered neighborhood gatherings across the city. Every family has conversations around the kitchen table about income, expenses, priorities, and how to make limited dollars go further. City of La Marque leadership faces many of the same decisions.

Join City leadership at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Council Chambers for a community conversation about La Marque's financial future. We'll review the City's revenues and expenses, discuss the proposed tax rate and the no-new-revenue tax rate, and explore what these options could mean for city services.

The discussion will also include alternative funding ideas, such as a potential public safety fee, and how the City's financial standing can influence homeowners' insurance rates and other long-term costs.

Most importantly, we want to hear from residents. This is an opportunity to share your ideas, ask questions, and help shape recommendations that will be presented to City Council as budget and tax rate decisions are considered.

As the City's Lift Station Rehabilitation Project continues, a temporary road closure will be in place at Jackson Street and Lake Road beginning August 31.

This work is part of an ongoing sewer infrastructure improvement project designed to strengthen the reliability of La Marque's wastewater system. Construction is expected to take approximately 40 to 60 working days, although weather and other factors may affect the schedule.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area and follow posted detours and traffic control devices. The City is working closely with the contractor to minimize disruptions whenever possible.

The City of La Marque was notified this morning that CenterPoint Energy is purging natural gas lines along Bayou Road from Scott Street to FM 519 (Main Street), as well as in the area of Howell Avenue from Scott Street to FM 519 (Main Street). This work is part of an ongoing infrastructure improvement project.

Residents and businesses in the area may notice a natural gas odor while crews are performing this work. If you smell natural gas in these areas, please be aware that CenterPoint crews are on site conducting scheduled operations.

If you smell natural gas outside of the work area, notice a strong or persistent odor, or have concerns about a possible gas leak, leave the area immediately and contact CenterPoint Energy at 1-800-752-8036 or call 911 if there is an immediate emergency.
