Happy National Friends of Libraries Week to Friends of the La Mesa Library! Our Friends provide so much support, advocacy, and joy to our library. We could not offer the same variety of programs or reach all of the corners of the community without our Friends' tireless support. Thank you for being a Friend!

How do libraries benefit from Friends groups? They benefit by the expansion of their resources to serve the public. Friends extend a library’s capacity through dollar gifts, volunteer and program support, and through advocacy.

The Friends of the La Mesa Library is a group of people from the La Mesa area who believes that a modern, effective library is essential to our community. Formed in February 1969, the Friends have since incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization whose stated purpose is to promote, preserve, and support library services and patron needs through education of and communication with local libraries and the community.

Are you a Friend yet? Join us in our mission to support the La Mesa Library by visiting lamesalibrary.org/membership.

🚨 LA MESA PARENTS! LAST CALL FOR MINI MESA! 🚨
Have a middle schooler who’s curious about how our city works? Here’s their chance to find out! (Your kiddo only needs to either live in La Mesa or go to school in La Mesa!)

🏛️ Mini Mesa is happening THIS SATURDAY, October 17 from 9 am to 3 pm at the La Mesa Community Center.

Young people will have a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of local government and discover how the people and agencies serving the community make La Mesa work. Think Junior Achievement’s Biz Town meets Model UN.

🚒 Meet our firefighters!
🚓 Learn about our police department!
💧 Discover where our water comes from!
⚡ Explore clean energy!
🏙️ See how City Council and city staff serve our community!

This is more than a field trip. It’s an opportunity to inspire our next generation of leaders, problem-solvers, and community changemakers!

Students receive a certificate of participation from the city, a city pin, snacks, lunch and more. It’s free to participate and will hopefully become an annual event for La Mesa.
