Size: 3,060 acres
Containment: 15%
Personnel: 46

Over the past 48 hours, the Red Fire has received .4" of rain and snow moderating conditions and fire activity. This morning at 9 a.m. command of the fire transferred from a Type 3 incident commander to a Type 4 organization. Firefighters continue to patrol the perimeter and extinguish hot spots.

The emergency fire area closure has been reduced. Red Fire Quick Facts – Oct. 16, 2024
Size: 3,060 acres
Containment: 15%

Yesterday the Red Fire experienced minimal growth with cooler temperatures and slight moisture moderating fire activity. Today the fire is creeping and smoldering following 1/10" of rain overnight and morning fog. Firefighters are patrolling Forest Service Road 60, mopping up hot spots 50' interior of the fire's edge, and mitigating hazard trees.

An emergency fire area closure remains in place for the Red Fire to provide for public and firefighter safety. Firefighters have recently encountered members of the public within the closure area which can hinder fire suppression efforts and is unsafe as the fire isn’t fully contained. All control lines continue to hold and fire behavior remains minimal because of the cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels. Hoses and sprinklers have been pulled from around the cabins because the threat to structures has significantly diminished. Firefighters continue to remove hazard trees along roads within the fire area and patrol the fire perimeter along Forest Service Road 60.

Red Fire Quick Facts – Oct. 12, 2024
Size: 3,003 acres
Containment: 15%
Personnel: 66

Cooler temperatures and high relative humidity levels continue to moderate fire behavior. Crews are focused on removing hazard trees along roads within the fire area and mopping up any sources of heat along Forest Service Road (FSR) 60.

There have been several lines of defense between the fire and structures including sprinklers around structures, hose lays around structures, and another hose lay along FSR 60. Firefighters will begin to pull hoses in phases. Crews will start by pulling the sprinklers around structures first, then the hose lays around cabins, and finally the hose lay along FSR 60. Crews will not pull hoses in areas that they are still needed. Hose lays are being pulled because the risk to structures has diminished significantly. Fire has either naturally progressed down to FSR 60, or strategic burning operations have been completed along the road securing control lines near structures. Engines will continue to patrol the area.

Containment: 15%

All control and containment lines continue to hold on the Red Fire. Fire behavior has been minimal given the recent cooler temperatures and cloud cover. Crews continue to extinguish sources of heat along the northern edge of Forest Service Road 60. Firefighters also continue to remove fire weakened hazard trees along roads within the fire area.

We are experiencing an abnormally warm and dry October. The Red Fire will continue to be on the landscape until a season ending event which requires sustained precipitation in the form of rain or snow.

Containment: 15%

All control and containment lines continue to hold on the Red Fire. Tactical burning operations west of Greenwood Point along the shaded fuel break and Forest Service Road (FSR) 60 are nearly complete. Firefighters are cleaning up a pocket of unburned fuel in this area between the fire and FSR 60, which will secure the road as a control feature. If aircraft are available, they will drop water to cool hot spots and slow fire spread on the eastern and western flanks of the fire today.

Stronger than anticipated winds resulted in increased fire activity and smoke yesterday. Smoke from the neighboring 208 Fire was also visible in the area as well. When conditions are favorable, firefighters plan to continue strategic burning operations west of Greenwood Point along the shaded fuel break and Forest Service Road (FSR) 60 to remove unburned fuels ahead of the fire.

Strategic burning operations near Greenwood Point were successful yesterday. Firefighters were able to bring fire down to the shaded fuel break and Forest Service Road (FSR) 60 eliminating unburned fuels between the fire and control lines, protecting cabins to the east. Tactical burning operations may continue as conditions are favorable west of Greenwood Point. The fire is expected to continue creeping and backing to the east along FSR 60.

Red Fire Quick Facts – Oct. 5, 2024
Size: 2,600 acres
Containment: 11%
Personnel: 75

Fire activity did increase slightly yesterday as anticipated but there were no spot fires over control lines and all established firelines held. Fire behavior remained moderate overall even with the strong winds. Most of the increased fire activity consisted of isolated tree torching well within the fire perimeter and away from control lines.

UPDATE: If conditions are favorable, firefighters may conduct a small strategic burning operation to bring low-intensity fire down to the shaded fuel break and FSR 60 in the Greenwood Point area, west of the cabins. The purpose is to remove unburned fuel between the fire and control lines to protect structures east of Greenwood Point. If these burning operations occur, more smoke will be visible from the surrounding area.

The fire will continue to back slowly along Forest Service Road (FSR) 60 to the east. Fire behavior is expected to be minimal today because of high relative humidity levels overnight and low winds throughout the day.

The Red Fire remains north of FSR 60. The fire has reached the established shaded fuel breaks along FSR 60 north of Whitefish Horse Camp in the Tranquil Cove area and between Greenwood Point and Zims Point as anticipated.
