J.P. Ryon Elementary School recently held a vision clinic for students at the school and the Early Learning Center, Waldorf, through the Glasses2Classes program with Optical Academy. On June 4, the program provided on-site eye exams for more than 500 students.

Students who needed glasses received a prescription and picked out frames based on their preferred style. They will receive them at the end of the month.

The program provides service to students and families by making vision care easier to access. Eye exams can help identify vision concerns that may impact a child’s ability to read, learn and fully participate in classroom activities. By bringing the service directly to the school, families were able to receive support without needing to schedule outside appointments or travel during the school day.

Jennifer Toone, community school coordinator at Ryon, said that the school is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Optical Academy to help meet the needs of students and remove barriers for families. Programs like Glasses2Classes support student success by making sure children have the tools they need to see clearly, feel confident and do their best in school.

Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School held a vision clinic for students on Thursday, June 5.
