XC Ski Trail Grooming Update for 3/23:

Just finished tracking the Backyard, Capser, and Nucy Meech Trails for what will most likely be the last groom of this ski season. Still a good base on most of the trails, but roots and rocks beginning to appear, and water starting to flow. Everything tracked up better than I had expected, so get out for a few final skis (t-shirt weather!) while you can. Mornings will be fast!

To all of you who supported us this year by enjoying the trails and/or making a financial contribution to our group, THANK YOU! So nice to have enjoyed a real winter this year.

XC Ski Trail Grooming Update for 3/16:

All Town trails (Backyard, Capser, Nucy Meech, and Fisherman’s Loop) along with all North End trails were tracked earlier today. Conditions are nearly perfect right now; if you’ve been waiting to try the North End go now! Took this photo this morning and sent it on to Keith to get him thinking about coming out. Enjoy!

XC Ski Trail Grooming Update for 3/13:

Just finished tracking the three Capser Trails and am headed over to the Backyard Trail now. That one should be done in another hour or so for you daylight savings time skiers. Amazingly beautiful in the woods right now. Enjoy.

XC Ski Trail Grooming Update for 3/11:

Well, well … Surprising snowfalls this week mean we’re not done yet! Tracked the Backyard, Capser, and Nucy Meech Trails this morning with only a couple of thin/wet slots to report. With cooler temps and more snow on the way we should be skiing for at least two more weeks and April is in sight!

On top of that, the sight of the Island Queen breaking its way to the ferry dock on my drive home topped off the morning. What a week!

XC Ski Trail grooming update for 2/22:

Entire North End system packed and tracked yesterday, and between all the snow on the trees and the wonderful track courtesy of that heavy wet snow last week, it really couldn’t be any better out there. If you haven’t tried those North End trails, this week is your week. If you have, you will want to get back out there asap. Enjoy!

XC Ski Trail grooming update for 2/20:

Capser, Nucy Meech, Backyard, and Golf Course Trails all retracked yesterday after the recent storm. All in wonderful condition, with fast skiing the first half of the day at least! Winter wonderland in the woods with all the new snow. Forecast calling for cooler temps, so skiing should be very good for the next few weeks at least. Will try to get out to those North End trails soon as well. Enjoy!

XC ski trail grooming update for 2/19:

Winter is back! Capser, Fisherman’s, half of Nucy Meech and Backyard Trails all packed and tracked yesterday afternoon. Will try to get back out and re-track today or tomorrow after last night’s snow. So beautiful out there, though there are a couple of trees half down with all the heavy snow. Enjoy!

We did it! Twin tracks to Basswood and back from the ice road approach for a bucket-list xc ski this weekend!! Conditions better than expected, with only a couple of icy spots which are easily crossed or avoided. Snow cover even hard enough to walk on, though warm temps today might soften that a bit. Today/Tomorrow perfect time to go. Trail goes to west end of Basswood near the picnic table, so bring eats and drinks for a go-ashore if you do go and please post pics! Trailhead just beyond the windsleds toward Basswood. DM or call Ken with questions!

Capser, Nucy Meech, and Fisherman’s Loop also tracked this morning and they are in wonderful condition.

XC Ski Trail Grooming Update #2 for 2/10:

North End Trails all now tracked and ready for action as well. Very nice conditions out there, and “thank you!” to the snowshoers that avoided the ski tracks while walking the trail recently!

XC Ski Trail Grooming Update for 2/10/26:

Capser Trail and Backyard Trail both re-tracked last night, and they should both be in excellent condition through the week … Cooler temps overnight will make for fast morning tracks!

QUESTION: We’re considering setting a couple of tracks from the Ice Road Approach over to Basswood Island to add to the fun for the upcoming weekend but would like to know whether or not we’d have skiers if we do that because it does take time and energy! Please post a brief reply or DM Ken if you’d be interested in using. With stable conditions, track should hold up until snow arrives again later next week? Thank you!

XC Ski Trail Grooming Update for 2/2/26:

If you’re one of those skiers waiting for perfect conditions before hitting the trails, this is your week. Backyard and Golf Course Trails were tracked this morning, and they are in perfect mid-season condition.

And as a bonus for anyone with a little sense of adventure, also tracked a trail from the ice road approach down the shore to the head of Sunset Bay. Your chance to “walk on water” today! Probably won’t hold up very long with our winter winds, but beautiful this morning so might be worth a try, especially tonight with all that moonlight?

XC Ski Trail Grooming Update for 1/31:

North End Trails all re-tracked yesterday and ready for skiers. A wonderland out there, and with temps soaring into the teens above zero this week and beyond, this is the week to get out! Throw in a full moon tonight and island ski trails are begging for company. Enjoy.
