Following recent observations of increased turtle activity across Madeline Island, the Chamber is supporting an immediate adjustment to local traffic speeds in high-crossing areas.
Effective today, the recommended island speed limit will be 12 mph.
This change is intended to improve safety for both residents and seasonal wildlife, particularly in areas where turtle crossings have been reported.
We ask that all drivers remain alert and plan for slightly longer travel times as we prioritize a safer, more wildlife-friendly environment.
Repeat violations may result in additional education measures, including participation in a Turtle Awareness Workshop.
