🌾🚒 Grain Bin Rescue Awareness Training 🚒🌾

Yesterday, members of the Scioto Valley Fire District joined firefighters from Fort Morrow (Waldo) Fire District, Green Camp Fire Department, and Marseilles Volunteer Fire Department for a Grain Bin Rescue Awareness Class.

The Ohio Fire Academy- Ohio State Fire Marshal brought their Grain Bin Rescue Simulator Trailer to provide firefighters with realistic, hands-on training involving grain entrapment emergencies.

Crews had the opportunity to practice extricating patients trapped in grain using our specialized grain bin rescue tube, working through the techniques and teamwork required to safely perform these challenging rescues.

Grain bin emergencies can become life-threatening in a matter of seconds and present significant hazards to both the victim and rescuers. Having the opportunity to train together with neighboring departments helps ensure that when one of these emergencies occurs, we are prepared to respond safely and effectively as a team.

👏 We also want to give a HUGE shout-out to Central Ohio Farmers Co-op, Inc. for providing the corn used during the training. Their support made it possible for crews to train under much more realistic conditions.

We would also like to thank the Bowling Green Township Trustees for allowing us to use their building for the class. With the rain yesterday, having an indoor location allowed the training to continue without interruption.

Finally, thank you to the Ohio Fire Academy and their instructors for bringing the simulator and providing an excellent day of training, and to all of the firefighters who spent their Saturday improving their skills to better serve their communities.

Training together today prepares us to respond together tomorrow.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority police officers, eight emergency medical personnel, and the thousands of innocent lives taken that day.

May we never forget their bravery, their sacrifice, and the unity our nation found in the days that followed.

*** Public Meeting ***

At 7pm on Wednesday September 2nd at the LaRue Municipal Building there will be a public meeting.

This emergency meeting has been scheduled to discuss a joint partnership between local villages and townships to address the public health concerns over the current mosquito population and their transmission of diseases found present in this area. Late Summer temperatures are forecast to remain above 80°

All are welcome to this public meeting. By law the only topic which will be discussed at this meeting is the aforementioned.

At this time, we are specifically seeking individuals interested in joining one of our 6th-day rotations. This is a great opportunity for those looking for consistent, predictable part-time hours while serving our community as part of a progressive Fire/EMS organization.
