This week at the LaSalle Public Library (10/25-10/31)

Monday, October 26th: International Board Game Club at 4pm. Dungeons and Dragons: Slayer's Call starts at 6pm.
Tuesday, October 27th: Teen Advisory Group meets at 4pm.
Wednesday, October 28th: Library Finance Board Meeting at 6:15pm. Library Board of Trustees Meeting at 6:30pm.
Thursday, October 29th: Storytime at 10:30am. Tween Haunted Birdhouse Craft begins at 4pm.
Friday, October 30th: Werewolf Party runs from 3:30-5pm.
Saturday, October 31st: Halloween Book Giveaway runs from 9-2pm, or while supplies last.

All programs take place in our downstairs meeting room, unless specified otherwise. All programs are free and open to the public. Some programs have specific age ranges or require registration. Check our website or individual Facebook posts for more information on specific programs.

Trick or Treating begins early at the LaSalle Public Library!
Be sure to swing by the library on October 31st between the hours of 9am-2pm to pick up a free Halloween book. There will be Easy Reader, Juvenile, and Young Adult titles available for children and teens to claim. No library card necessary. Limit one book per child.
Then, once you've received your free book, head into our children's library for an assortment of games and activities, where more prizes can be won!

At 3:30pm next Friday, October 30th, the LaSalle Public Library's Teen Advisory Group presents an evening of tricks and treats. "Werewolf" is a social deduction game in which villagers must discover who amongst them are werewolves in the morning, while trying to survive their beastly attacks at night. Swing by for this fun game that puts the lie in lycanthropy.
This program is open to all patrons over the age of 13, no registration necessary. Costumes Encouraged. Halloween treats and refreshments will be provided.

The LaSalle Public Library invites you to Shark Movie Night on November 6th at 6pm. In association with Stage 212 and their upcoming fall production of "The Shark is Broken," the library will be hosting a free screening of the 1975 shark blockbuster. An introductory presentation will be provided by the play's director, and a ticket giveaway will be held at the conclusion of the screening.
This screening is free to attend, no registration necessary. For more information, including film title, runtime, and content rating information, visit the program portal on our website.

Edgar Allan Poe and Alfred Hitchcock were ahead of their time in trying to warn the world of how scary birds were. The LaSalle Public Library invites tweens between the ages of 11-14 to follow in their footsteps for our Haunted Birdhouse Craft. Starting at 4pm on October 29th, the library welcomes crafty tweens to design their own haunted birdhouse!
This program is free to attend, no library card necessary. All materials will be provided. Registration is necessary. To register, visit or call the library at 815-223-2341.

The LaSalle Public Library has partnered with the Library Speakers Consortium to provide a collection of high quality presentations from some of the hottest writers, accessible from anywhere, all for free!

Next week, October 28th, at 6:30pm, the Library Board of Trustees will be meeting to discuss library operations. The Finance Committee will be meeting beforehand, at 6:15pm. Meetings are open to the public to attend, with a public comment portion at the beginning of the meeting. Meeting Agenda will be made available next week.

For all teenagers looking to get involved in their community, the Teen Advisory Group may be what you're looking for. The next meeting takes place next week, October 27th, at 4pm. Join others in planning future programs, providing resources, designing displays, and more. Plus, there'll be pizza!
This group is open to teens aged 13-19. Those interested in earning community service hours are encouraged to attend! The Teen Advisory Group will meet biweekly, on Tuesdays, at 4pm, and meetings will typically last for an hour.

In case you missed it last week, the Peru Public Library "coincidentally" posted a nearly identical flyer announcing their food drive would be running at the same exact time as ours, so we've issued a challenge.

The LaSalle Public Library will be competing against the Peru Public Library to raise the most food donations for the Illinois Valley Food Pantry in what we're calling The Battle of the Bookshelves. Beginning on Monday, November 2nd, we'll begin collecting non-perishable donations to help improve another family's holiday season.
We'll also be posting weekly challenges and updates on the competition throughout the month.

Two libraries, one food drive. Which town can raise the most donations for a great cause, and why is it going to be LaSalle?
