Summer begins at the LaSalle Public Library. On top of our Summer Reading Programs, here are some other programs and events to look forwards to!
June 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th - International Board Game Club: Join us weekly as we test out games from around the world!
June 1st, 15th, 29th - DND: Explorer's Call: These sessions will focus on all aspects of DND, from role-play to puzzles, with the occasional combat encounter. This group is for players 13+.
June 2nd - Personnel and Policy Committee Meeting: The library's Personnel and Policy Committee will be meeting at 5:30pm. All members of the public are welcome to attend, as there will be a public comment portion at the beginning of the meeting.
June 3rd - Free Blood Pressure & Glucose Testing: From 10-11am, In-Home Care Connections will have a volunteer to run blood pressure and glucose tests for free. No registration necessary. These tests will be conducted on the first Wednesday of every month.
June 3rd - Creative Writing Club: Join us as we explore the art of writing with discussion and hands-on activities. This club is open to the public (16+), and all materials are provided.
June 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th - Storytime: Join us at 10:30am for a delightful storytime for youngsters, full of stories, crafts, and fun!
June 4th - Nancy's NeedleNut Stitchers: Do you like any form of hand needlework? Bring your cross stitch, embroidery, crochet, knitting, rug hooking, needle punch or quilting to this group that meets up on the first Thursday of every month at Noon. The group is led by former owner of the Needle Nut, Nancy Nieslawski. The Needle Nut was located in downtown LaSalle.
June 6th, 18th - Adult Coloring Club: Colored pencils, a coloring page, and some light tunes makes this the perfect break for your mind. Come join us for some coloring time.
June 8th - DND: Slayer’s Call: These sessions will place your brave adventurer in a near-apocalyptic world, where it is up to you and your party to combat the forces of evil in this combat & chaos focused campaign. Perfect for younger and first time players eager to roll dice.
June 9th, 23rd - Lego Day: Fan of Lego? The Children's Library will be putting out their bins of Legos for creative minds to build with all day.
June 9th, 23rd - Teen Advisory Group: If you're a teenager who wants to be involved in your community, join us for our biweekly meeting as we discuss ways the library can better serve young people.
June 10th - Kids Summer Art Club: The Kids Summer Art Club invites creative minds to make their own works of art based on the supplies and materials provided.
June 10th - "Tomato Troubles," with Illinois Master Gardeners: Tomatoes are one of the most popular and commonly grown plants in home gardens. Learn about common problems that plague tomatoes as well as ways to address them in this free educational seminar at 5pm on Wednesday, June 10th.

June 11th - Family Game Day: Starting at 11am, the Children's Library will be offering Board Games from our collection for families to play together!
June 12th - Teen Lounge: Now opening at 2pm for the summer, this will be the perfect time to hang out with friends, enjoy some refreshments, and play a variety of games on the library's Nintendo Switch! This program is for teens 13 and up. Attendees must be picked up by 5pm.
June 17th - Tween Craft: From 3:30-5pm, tweens are invited to create collage bookmarks for whatever they've chosen for summer reading. All materials will be provided, no registration necessary.
June 17th - Friends of Dorothy: A Herstory of Q***r Voices Throughout Literature: Join us at 5pm for a delightfully unhinged retrospective of the many q***r voices that shaped literature as we know it today.
June 18th - Bring Your Own Book Club: Read something fascinating and looking for somewhere to talk about it? Maybe just looking for some good recommendations? Join us for our Bring Your Own Book Club, where we share our favorite recent reads.
June 19th - Juneteenth: The LaSalle Public Library will be closed all day.
June 24th - Library Board Meeting: The Board of Trustees will be meeting to discuss library operations. Meetings are open to the public to attend.
June 25th - Incredible Bats: At 1pm, the library will welcome Incredible Bats and their collection of unique and exotic animals, including bats, a fox, and Rico the Sloth!
June 26th - Pride Trivia: Take Pride in your knowledge. At 5:30pm, the library will close out the month with a mini Trivia Night! Assemble a team of 5 to compete against other teams in categories like History of the Pride Movement and Q***r Icons. In order to be eligible for the prize, an entry fee of a nonperishable donation to the Illinois Valley Food Pantry is requested. June 27th - Library Closed: The LaSalle Public Library will be closed all day for staff training.
All programs are free and open to the public. Some programs have specific age ranges or require registration. Interactive calendar and additional information on all events are available on the LaSalle Public Library's website and program portal. Programs may be added, canceled, or rescheduled.
