The members of LaSalle Fire Department were proud to have participated in our city’s first ever National Night Out event alongside the LaSalle Police Department. The countless hours of planning and preparation resulted in an awesome community gathering with a great turnout.

PRESS RELEASE

At 5:39pm on Friday, July 31, LaSalle Fire Department, along with Automatic Aid from Peru, Utica, Oglesby, and Spring Valley Fire Departments and Peru and Utica EMS were dispatched to a structure fire at Batteries and Things, 365 24th Street. The first fire units arrived within 5 minutes to find a well involved commercial building. The fire was upgraded to a Box Alarm at 5:54pm, bringing resources from the Troy Grove, Mendota, Tonica, and Wallace Fire Departments. At 6:51pm, a Second Alarm was requested with Marseilles, Ottawa, Standard, Princeton and Earlville Fire Departments responding. At 7:23pm a third Alarm was requested with Naplate, Granville, and Cedar Point responding.

An emergency alert was issued by LaSalle County Emergency Management Agency for the area downwind of the fire to shelter in place and keep windows closed and HVAC units off to limit exposure to the products of combustion. During the incident, the MABAS Division 25 Hazardous Materials Response Team was requested to monitor conditions in the area. Illinois EPA Emergency Response personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed that all readings taken were within normal limits. All units cleared the scene by 12:43am. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is underdetermined at this time. The building and contents were a total loss.

Additional agencies assisting were Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch, LaSalle Police Department, LaSalle Water Department, LaSalle Wastewater Department, LaSalle Street Department, LaSalle County Emergency Management Agency, MABAS Division 25 Chaplain, and AMEREN.

🚨🚨🚨Final Update 1:00am All fire units have cleared the scene. There may be some residual smoke in the area that doesn’t pose a threat to the community. Illinois EPA Emergency Response Personnel were on site to confirm all readings taken were within normal limits. Press release to follow soon.

Update 22:40 Shelter in place is being lifted at this time. The fire departments will remain on scene extinguishing hot spots. Throughout the incident the air quality limits were within normal ranges.

Update 22:00 working on final extinguishment. Crews are still actively monitoring the air quality. The shelter in place is still in effect at this time. Thank you for your cooperation.

Update 20:30 We are continuing to monitor air quality at this time. No elevated readings at this time. Please remain sheltered in place at this time due to smoke in the area. Please avoid the area to allow public safety crews to operate.

LaSalle Fire Department is in the area of 24th/Malcom Ave in LaSalle. They are on scene of a large scale fire with potential air quality issues. Crews are in the area monitoring air quality. Please at this time shelter in place in the area, keep all doors and windows closed, and turn off air conditioning systems at this time. Please watch our page for information and updates.
