Congratulations to La Vergne High School on officially celebrating the opening of its beautiful new addition! La Vergne Fire Rescue sincerely thanks the LHS administration for inviting our department to be part of this important occasion.

“Our department has made great strides in building partnerships with our local schools,” said Curtis Brinkley, Division Chief of Community Risk Reduction for La Vergne Fire Rescue. “Whether our on-duty crews are supporting students at local sporting events or celebrating an important milestone like the opening of this new addition, we want our role in the community to extend beyond responding to emergencies. The men and women of LFRD want to support those who support us. That is what community is all about.”

La Vergne Fire Rescue is committed to serving our community through education, preparedness, and prevention. Throughout the year, our dedicated staff provides free community CPR and first aid courses for La Vergne residents. Local businesses can also take advantage of CPR and first aid training, fire extinguisher training, and assistance with emergency preparedness planning.

LFRD also offers an ongoing program that gives high school-aged students the opportunity to learn and train alongside members of our department.

Several chief officers from La Vergne Fire Rescue recently attended the Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association’s 58th Annual Leadership Conference in Murfreesboro. The annual conference brings fire service leaders from across Tennessee together for professional development, leadership education, networking, and the exchange of ideas to strengthen emergency services throughout the state.

Our department is especially proud to recognize two significant achievements by Fire Chief Ronny Beasley during this year’s conference.

Chief Beasley was selected to serve as Second Vice President of the Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association and was officially sworn into his new role. He previously served the association as a member of its Board of Directors.

Chief Beasley was also presented with the Presidential Distinguished Service Award for Professional Development. This honor recognizes his dedication to advancing continuing education and leadership development within Tennessee’s fire service. Chief Beasley has been instrumental in developing chief officer-level courses that have benefited current fire chiefs and those preparing to advance into chief officer roles. Over the past year, the association has hosted several of these leadership courses, making a tremendous impact throughout Middle Tennessee.

Chief Beasley’s commitment to professional development is also evident within La Vergne Fire Rescue. Since he became Fire Chief, more than a dozen department employees have completed college degrees, including two who earned master’s degrees and one who is currently pursuing a doctorate. Department personnel have also completed numerous specialized training programs in fireground operations, technical rescue, and other areas of the fire service. Chief Beasley is also a huge supporter of the National Fire Academy where several employees have now attended and completed advanced trainings.

La Vergne Fire Rescue proudly hosted its inaugural Camp Ignited this weekend, welcoming local middle school students for a hands-on introduction to the fire service.

Throughout the camp, students experienced many of the skills firefighters use every day while gaining a firsthand look at life in the fire service. Activities included learning about firefighting tools and equipment, ladder operations, fire hose handling, and the different types of hoses used on emergency scenes. Campers also toured the department's fire apparatus, learned how each vehicle is used during emergencies, and even had the opportunity to ride in one of the department's aerial ladder trucks, giving them a firefighter's view from high above the ground.

In addition to firefighting skills, students received valuable life safety training, including hands-only CPR, basic first aid, and the proper use of portable fire extinguishers.

"Camp Ignited was an idea one of our personnel brought to me several months ago," said Curtis Brinkley, Division Chief of Community Risk Reduction. "Since then, we've added a new Life Safety Specialist, and the two of them immediately began planning. Watching their vision become a reality has been incredible."

Div. Chief Brinkley praised the efforts of the department members who made the event possible.

"Lt. Egan and Life Safety Specialist Parra worked extremely hard to organize this camp," Brinkley said. "They also had tremendous support from many other employees who volunteered their time to serve as instructors throughout the weekend. Our employees are the ones who make events like this successful. We truly have the best firefighters anyone could ask for."

Camp Ignited is part of La Vergne Fire Rescue's ongoing commitment to community risk reduction, fire safety education, and inspiring the next generation of public servants.

La Vergne Fire Rescue would also like to extend its sincere appreciation to our community partners and sponsors whose generous support helped make Camp Ignited possible. These classes are designed to help community members gain the knowledge and confidence to respond during emergencies until help arrives.

Classes are free of charge, but space is limited and registration is required.
