Yesterday marked a tremendous milestone for the La Vergne Police Department and the City of La Vergne.

Please join me in congratulating Lieutenant David Durham on his graduation from the prestigious FBI National Academy as a member of Session #297. Over the course of ten weeks, Lt. Durham successfully completed graduate-level coursework focused on leadership, self-development, and physical fitness, skills that are critical to the future of modern policing.

Selection to attend the FBI National Academy is a significant professional achievement, and Lt. Durham represented our department and our community with professionalism, integrity, and pride.

I am incredibly proud of Lt. Durham for earning this opportunity and for his commitment to continuous growth. I am equally proud of our city for investing in our people and supporting the development of future leaders within our organization.

This is exactly the culture we are building at the La Vergne Police Department, one grounded in growth, accountability, and excellence.

Congratulations, Lt. Durham. I look forward to the positive impact you will continue to make on our department and the community we serve!

Great job Officer Thompkins, keep up the great work!!!!

At the La Vergne Police Department, our mission is “building a stronger La Vergne through service, integrity, and trust.” Officer Thompkins’ dedication to community engagement reflects exactly what that mission means in action.

Whether he’s spending time connecting with seniors at the local senior center, supporting community events, or organizing toy and food drives for families in need, Officer Thompkins continues to build meaningful relationships throughout our city. His passion for serving others and connecting with residents represents the very heart of community policing.

We accomplish our mission through strong partnerships with the community we serve. Moments like these remind us that the work we do is most effective when we work together.

We commend Officer Thompkins for his dedication to community engagement and the positive example he sets every day.

To our citizens, we encourage you to continue engaging with us and sharing your feedback. Let us know when we excel and when we fall short, because your input helps us grow and better serve our community.

The La Vergne Police Department is, and always will be, committed to service and excellence.

Thank you, La Vergne, for continuing to stand alongside us.

The Word Is Spreading…

La Vergne is becoming known as a community that takes public safety seriously. Through a calculated, coordinated, and tactical approach to policing, the La Vergne Police Department is working every day to ensure criminals understand that our city is not a place where crime will be tolerated.

We are proud to work closely with our community and our regional law enforcement partners to identify offenders, hold them accountable, and keep our neighborhoods safe.

Let us be clear, we will never apologize for protecting our community.

If you are here to live, work, and raise a family, La Vergne welcomes you.

If you are here to commit crime, you should reconsider.

This past weekend, the La Vergne Public Library hosted a special event combining Coffee with a Cop and Share the Love: Take Your Child to the Library Day. It was a fantastic reminder of why community policing matters.

Policing is a serious profession. Every day, our officers are called upon to exemplify our core values of Professionalism, Honor, Transparency, Integrity, Accountability, and Respect. We take that responsibility seriously.

But there are also moments when we can let our hair down and simply connect.

Community policing means building relationships with residents of all ages. It means having conversations over coffee. It means reading books to children. It even means participating in activities like the “freeze dance” (I promise my policing skills are much better than my dancing skills!).

It is important for our community to see us as people; husbands, wives, moms, dads, sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters. We don’t just work for this community, we are a part of it.

I truly enjoyed reading to the young members of our community and sharing in the fun. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our Library staff for hosting such a meaningful event. We look forward to many more opportunities to connect, serve, and build trust together. 💙

Preventing Violence Starts with Awareness

Keeping our community safe is not just about responding to emergencies, it’s about preventing harm before it happens.

Research from the U.S. Secret Service shows that acts of targeted violence are often preceded by concerning behaviors that are noticed by family members, friends, coworkers, classmates, or neighbors. When those warning signs are reported early, tragedies can be prevented

What does this mean for our community?

There is no single profile of someone who commits targeted violence.

* People rarely “snap” without warning, signals are usually present

* Early reporting and intervention save lives

* Prevention focuses on helping people in crisis, not punishment

See something concerning? Say something.
If you notice behaviors that raise safety concerns, such as escalating threats, fixation on violence, severe distress, or alarming statements, report them. You don’t need proof of a crime to speak up. Your information could make a difference.

Our department is committed to proactive, prevention-based policing that prioritizes safety, compassion, and early intervention. Together, as a community, we can help identify concerns early and connect people with the support they need, before violence occurs.

Safety is a shared responsibility. Thank you for being part of the solution.

I am extremely proud of the officers and supervisors who responded to this dangerous incident. A reckless driver collided with another vehicle, rupturing a gas line and creating a highly volatile situation.

La Vergne Police Department personnel immediately acted to extricate injured occupants and physically move them to safety while coordinating the response of additional emergency services. Other LPD personnel secured the scene by blocking traffic and evacuating nearby residences to protect the public.

Even as this critical incident was unfolding, additional officers responded from home to handle other calls for service, ensuring our community continued to receive the police services it depends on.

I am proud of our LPD team, their courage, their willingness to place themselves in harm’s way to protect others, and their unwavering dedication to this community. Great job team!!!!

Nir Shreibman Blvd and Ramsden Ave have reopened and traffic is flowing normally.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation while emergency crews worked to safely clear the scene.

We will be making another post regarding this situation with more details.

TRAFFIC ALERT / ROAD CLOSURE

Please plan alternate routes and thank you for your cooperation.

Happy Thanksgiving, La Vergne! Today, and every day, I am grateful.

Grateful for my family, whose love, patience, and support keep me grounded in purpose and heart. Grateful for my faith, which guides me to lead with service, humility, and gratitude. And grateful for our La Vergne Police Department, whose men and women serve this community with integrity, courage, and compassion, often sacrificing time away from their own tables so others can be safe at theirs.

Thanksgiving reminds us that even in the most demanding roles, our greatest blessings are found in faith, family, and community.

To the residents of La Vergne, thank you for trusting us, partnering with us, and allowing us to serve you. It is a privilege we do not take lightly.

To our officers, dispatchers, and professional staff working today, your service matters. You matter.

Wishing you all a safe, blessed, and peaceful Thanksgiving filled with reflection, joy, and fellowship.

Very proud to share....we continue to combine community engagement with proactive policing. Serving others and protecting our community every chance we get!

Today, members of the La Vergne Police Department stopped by the La Vergne Senior Center to spend time with some of our favorite “young at heart” citizens. We had a great time sharing a meal, telling stories, swapping jokes, and getting a few laughs in return, sometimes at our expense!

We’re grateful for opportunities like this that remind us what community really means. Thank you to the La Vergne Senior Center for letting us crash your lunch, and thank you to our seniors for the warm smiles, the wisdom, and the good company.
