The La Vergne Police Department has concluded its initial investigation into the shooting that occurred near Waldron Road and Centrepointe Drive.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined the incident stemmed from a Facebook Marketplace transaction. Investigators learned that three individuals arranged to purchase an item from a seller. During the meeting, the three individuals allegedly took possession of the item without paying and fled the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed.

The seller subsequently pursued the vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the fleeing occupants, striking one individual. The victim sustained a gunshot wound, was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and was later released.

Detectives conducted numerous interviews, reviewed surveillance footage, and gathered evidence from the scene. As a result of the investigation, the three individuals accused of stealing the item were each charged with Aggravated Robbery and received $60,000 bonds.

The individual who allegedly fired the shots was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and Tampering with Evidence. He received a $310,000 bond.

This incident serves as a reminder that citizens should never attempt to take matters into their own hands. If you become the victim of a crime, contact law enforcement immediately and allow officers to investigate the matter safely and legally.

The La Vergne Police Department also encourages anyone buying or selling items through Facebook Marketplace or similar online platforms to conduct transactions in a safe, public location. Citizens are welcome to complete these exchanges in front of the La Vergne Police Department, where the presence of law enforcement and security cameras can provide an added level of safety for everyone involved.

We appreciate the assistance of witnesses and community members who provided information during this investigation.

La Vergne Monthly Statistics Update – April & May 2026

Before we jump into the numbers, we owe our community an apology.

Last month, we dropped the ball and failed to post our April statistics. Transparency and keeping our citizens informed are important to us, and we strive to provide regular updates on the work being done throughout our city. While we're a little late on April, we're making it right by sharing both April and May's statistics together, consider it an early release for May and a makeup post for April.

Throughout April and May, your officers remained proactive in protecting our community:
**April 2026**
-2,314 Calls for Service
-151 Arrests
-890 Traffic Stops
-29 Drug Arrests
-37 Domestic Assault Investigations
-10 Injury Accidents
-4 Stolen Vehicles Recovered

**May 2026**
-2,451 Calls for Service
-146 Arrests
-974 Traffic Stops
-34 Drug Arrests
-39 Domestic Assault Investigations
-8 Injury Accidents
-6 Stolen Vehicles Recovered

These numbers represent thousands of interactions, investigations, traffic enforcement efforts, emergency responses, and proactive policing activities conducted by our officers each month.

Our mission remains centered on Professionalism, Integrity, Duty, Honor, and Respect. Whether responding to calls for service, investigating crimes, recovering stolen property, or proactively addressing traffic concerns, our goal is to enhance public safety and improve quality of life for everyone who calls La Vergne home.

Public safety is not achieved by law enforcement alone. The information we receive from residents, the cooperation of victims and witnesses, and the engagement of our community all contribute to safer neighborhoods. Every report, every tip, and every citizen who takes an active role in their community helps us be more effective.

Continue to stay engaged and informed. Report suspicious activity, drive safely, and work alongside us to address issues affecting your neighborhoods. We also promise to continue providing transparency and updates, even when we have to own a mistake and catch up on a missed month.

Thank you for your continued support of the La Vergne Police Department. Together, we continue working toward a safer community for everyone.

La Vergne, Let's Talk About the SoToxa Mobile Test System

You may have recently heard discussions about the SoToxa Mobile Test System and its upcoming use by the La Vergne Police Department. We want to take a moment to explain what it is, how it will be used, and address some common misconceptions.

The SoToxa system is a roadside oral fluid screening tool designed to assist officers in investigations involving suspected impaired drivers. As impaired driving continues to be a public safety concern, law enforcement agencies across the country are utilizing additional tools to help identify potential impairment caused by narcotics and other substances.

Our mission is to protect the public while conducting fair, thorough, and professional investigations. The SoToxa device is simply another investigative tool that can help officers gather information after an arrest has already been made based on probable cause.

It is important to understand:
-The SoToxa device will only be used after probable cause has been established and an arrest has been made.
-Officers will not be randomly testing individuals.
-The device is not being used to determine whether someone should be arrested.
-Results from the SoToxa device are not admissible in court.
-A blood test remains the evidentiary standard and is what will be used for court proceedings.

The purpose of the device is to assist officers in understanding what may be contributing to a person's condition and to help guide the next steps of an investigation.

This technology benefits both the community and investigators by helping provide additional information during complex situations. Not every person displaying signs of impairment is necessarily under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.

In some cases, an individual may actually be experiencing a medical emergency, such as a diabetic event, neurological condition, or other health-related crisis. Having additional information available can help first responders better assess the situation and ensure the appropriate response is provided.

If officers determine that a person is suffering from a medical condition rather than impairment from alcohol or drugs, the focus shifts immediately toward obtaining the necessary medical care and assistance.

We encourage citizens to stay informed and ask questions when new technologies are introduced. Transparency is important to us, and we want our community to understand how these tools are used and why.

The SoToxa system is not replacing traditional investigations, field sobriety testing, or evidentiary blood testing. It is simply an additional tool that helps officers make informed decisions, identify potential impairment, recognize possible medical emergencies, and ultimately improve public safety.

Our goal remains the same as it always has been: protecting the citizens of La Vergne through professional, fair, and responsible policing.

La Vergne, Operation Safe Streets is Back!

The La Vergne Police Department is excited to announce that Operation Safe Streets on June 13, 2026, and we need your input to make it as effective as possible.

Operation Safe Streets is a focused enforcement and traffic safety initiative designed to address concerns directly affecting our neighborhoods. Officers will be targeting traffic violations, speeding, reckless driving, and other roadway safety issues identified by our community.

Our mission is to enhance public safety through proactive policing and community engagement. Rather than simply reacting to problems, Operation Safe Streets allows us to identify concerns before they lead to crashes, injuries, or other incidents. By focusing our efforts where citizens are experiencing issues, we can better serve our community and improve quality of life throughout La Vergne.

This initiative works best when the community is involved. You know your neighborhoods, streets, and daily traffic patterns better than anyone. Whether it's speeding through residential areas, stop sign violations, dangerous intersections, or reckless driving, your feedback helps us deploy resources where they are needed most.

We encourage all residents to participate in our Operation Safe Streets Citizen Survey and tell us where you are seeing traffic and roadway safety concerns.

Please complete the survey here:
https://www.lavergnetn.gov/FormCenter/Police-Forms-7/Operation-Safe-Streets-2026-Citizens-Sur-231

Your input will help us identify problem areas, direct enforcement efforts, and make our streets safer for everyone. The more information we receive from the community, the more effectively we can address the issues that matter most to you.

Together, we can make La Vergne's streets safer, one neighborhood at a time.

Driver Arrested Following Pursuit Through La Vergne and Antioch

Early yesterday morning, officers attempted to stop a vehicle for excessive speeding after observing it traveling at a high rate of speed on Stones River Road.

Rather than stopping, the driver fled from officers, reaching speeds of approximately 80 MPH in a posted 40 MPH zone while driving recklessly and failing to maintain control of the vehicle. Due to the danger posed to the public, a pursuit was authorized and continued through portions of La Vergne and Antioch.

During the pursuit, multiple occupants exited the vehicle at different locations, and officers observed items being thrown from the vehicle. After traveling approximately 25 miles over the course of 25 minutes, the driver ultimately pulled into a local business and surrendered without further incident.

Inside the vehicle, officers located alcoholic beverages, including an open container.

The juvenile driver was charged with:
• Felony Evading Arrest
• Reckless Driving
• Felony Reckless Endangerment (x2)
• DUI
• Joyriding
• Possession of Alcohol by a Minor
• Driving Without a License

An additional passenger was cited for Evading, and another passenger was treated for minor injuries after jumping from the moving vehicle.

Incidents like this demonstrate how quickly reckless decisions can place lives at risk. Excessive speed, impaired driving, and fleeing from law enforcement endanger not only those involved, but every motorist and family sharing the roadway.

We are thankful for the coordinated efforts of the officers involved, whose professionalism helped bring this incident to a safe conclusion without serious injury to the public.

Let this serve as a reminder: if you choose to drive recklessly, impaired, or flee from law enforcement, you will be held accountable for your actions. Our officers remain committed to protecting the citizens of La Vergne and keeping our roadways safe.

R.A.D. Self-Defense

The La Vergne Police Department is excited to announce another R.A.D. (R**e Aggression Defense) Self-Defense Course for Women, and for the first time, we are proud to be partnering with the MTSU Police Department to bring this program to our community.

The La Vergne Police Department has successfully hosted R.A.D. classes in the past, helping women gain practical self-defense skills, confidence, and awareness. This new partnership with MTSU Police allows us to continue growing the program and providing even more opportunities for participants to learn from experienced instructors.

R.A.D. is designed for women of all ages and fitness levels. Participants learn realistic defensive techniques, personal safety strategies, and situational awareness skills that can help them respond confidently during dangerous situations.

One of the most valuable parts of the course is the optional simulation day, where participants can safely put their newly learned skills into practice in a controlled environment. This hands-on experience helps reinforce techniques and build confidence in a way that classroom instruction alone cannot.

We are proud to work alongside the MTSU Police Department on this class. By combining resources and instructors, we can continue expanding programs that empower members of our community and promote personal safety.

Course Information
• Open to women ages 15 and older
• No prior experience required
• June 26th: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
• June 27th: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• June 28th: Optional Simulation Day & Video Review
• Hosted in the City of La Vergne
• Location provided upon registration confirmation

Please note this is one complete course conducted throughout the weekend, not separate classes. Participants should plan to attend both instructional days.

If you've ever considered taking a self-defense course, now is the perfect opportunity. We hope you'll join us for this important and empowering program.
