*UPDATE* Peanut is back at the shelter and available for adoption.

Meet our newest guest at the LaVerkin Animal Shelter. This is Peanut, a 1 year old Cattle Dog/Kelpie mix that was recently abandoned in a rural area with Petey. In spite of showing signs of abuse and neglect, Peanut is the sweetest, most loving dog we've had recently. He's weighs about 25 lbs, making him a perfect size for a wide variety of home size, or even in an RV. If we are correct as to his breed type, Peanut will be a very intelligent companion with a decent amount of energy to keep you active. Please call the shelter throughout the week and ask any questions you may have about this beautiful boy.
Peanut has been neutered and microchipped already, and is up-to-date on vaccinations. His adoption fees are only $70. If you're interested in meeting Peanut, please call the shelter at 435-772-5441 or visit Monday through Saturday between 9 AM and 1:30 PM.

*UPDATE* Wilson has been adopted!!

Hello, my name is Wilson. I am a 3 year old Bernese/Bull Terrier mix. Just wanted to let you all know Im looking for a permanent family. I'm a little scared of big noises and not completely sure why riding in a vehicle is a good thing, since the only time I have been give a ride is when my original family dropped me off and left me at a shelter and the second time I was taken to the vets to be neutered. I'm sure with some fun outing where Im not abandoned, I will learn to love rides.

*UPDATE* Ajax has been adopted!!

Meet our newest guest at the LaVerkin Animal Shelter. This is Ajax, a 7 year old Poodle mix that was surrendered to the shelter over the weekend. Ajax's owner died and the nearest next-of-kin is on the East Coast, so the family decided to surrender him to us. Ajax is a wonderful dog and has been a loyal companion to his owner for almost all of his 7 years. Unfortunately, Ajax is having a difficult time making the transition to his temporary home with us. He is very sad and confused to be in new surroundings. We are hoping his story reaches the right family to give him a new forever home where he can feel safe and loved. We're still getting to know Ajax and as time goes by we'll be able to determine the type of household he will thrive in. Please call the shelter throughout the week and ask any questions you may have about this beautiful boy.

UPDATE: Princess has been formally adopted. Happy trails!

Get ready to welcome Princess, a loving four-year-old Pomsky, into your life as she embarks on a journey to find her forever family. Princess is overflowing with snuggles and love. She is the perfect size for your lifestyle, whether in a mansion, RV or apartment. She's also good around people of all ages and is well behaved around other dogs. She has not been cat tested yet.
Princess has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and is now eagerly awaiting her new family. She dreams of being an indoor companion for the right person. Available for adoption through LaVerkin city animal shelter. Her adoption fee is $50 along with a $20 microchip fee. *UPDATE* Daisy completed her stray hold without anyone contacting the shelter to claim her. She now has an adoption pending after being spayed tomorrow.

These dogs were found as a stray nin LaVerkin on 5/11/2026. If you have information about these dogs, or if you may know the owner, please contact the LaVerkin Animal Shelter at 435-772-5441. Please leave a message if there is no answer.

*UPDATE* Lulu has been adopted!!

This sweet little girl is Lulu, a 1 year-old Basenji mix. We believe her other breeds in her DNA could be Min Pin and/or Chihuahua. The mixture makes for a very athletic, high energy pup that will give you hours of play if you give her the opportunity. She loves playing fetch, and will actually bring the toy back to you. Now, you may have to wrestle the toy out of her mouth, but at least you won't have to chase her around to get it. Lulu does well on a leash and will be a great companion on long walks or short runs. Have other dogs in your home? Not a problem. She does well with other dogs, but does need to be separated during feeding. A common trait with small dogs, but something you should be vigilant about. Lulu is also crate trained, and sleeps well in her crate all night. Although we know she'll make a great family pet, we don't believe she is a good fit around children under 3 years. She can be a little rambunctious and mouthy during play, which is not well received by little ones who are not able to control her behavior.
Lulu was surrendered to us. The mark on her back is from a chemical burn (unknown circumstances). A Vet exam confirmed this and that the fur will never grow back, but there are no long term issues from it, and she shows no signs of any physical abuse. Lulu is a very happy, energetic lady.
Lulu is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations for 1 year. The adoption fee is $50 plus $20 for the microchip registration fee.
If you are interested in Lulu, contact the staff at the LaVerkin Animal Shelter for an appointment to meet her. She is currently being kept at a foster who specializes in small dog breeds. We are open Mon-Sat 9-2. Call us at 435-772-5441 for more information.
